I don't really mind which language I watch it in. There are only a couple of exceptions though.
Japanese
-One Piece
-School Rumble
English
-DBZ
-Cowboy Bebop
I think the japanese DBZ voices sound stupid they don't fit the characters at all, ive never seen a anime where I don't like the english voice acting but then again we don't get much over here.
Better in English
-Black Lagoon
-Ghost in the Shell
-Full metal Alchemist
-Gundam Seed
-Trinity Blood
-The Twelve Kingdoms
-Black Cat
-Hellsing
-DBZ
Better in Japanese
-Naruto
-Bleach
-Love Hina
-Gundam Wing
-Elfen Lied
-Neon Genesis Evangelion
-Claymore
-Gantz
-Vandread
(preferences, only those marked with a "*" indicate I find the other version too inferior in comparison to watch)
English: Cowboy Bebop
FMA
*FLCL
Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
*Black Lagoon
*DBZ
School Rumble
*Baccano!
Gundam Seed
FUNi's One Piece
*Ghost Stories
Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad
Slayers
Japanese: Evangelion
*Hunter x Hunter
*Love Hina
*Fantastic Children
When They Cry
I've never seen a series I preferred in English. I think Dragon Ball, Tenchi Muyo, Slayers, Golden Boy, Evangelion, and any other series people for some ungodly reason prefer to watch in English.. are all better in their original language. The Dragon Ball character voices especially.. that show is ****ing horrid in English.
...in Japan it was 8000.

I agree. Japanese audio is much better. But if people prefer English that's up to them. English is what most of us speak and understand. I just think that most of the English voices are cheesey. The one exception for me is FLCL. I think the English voices sound some what similar to the Japanese voices.
i have to watch everything in japanese except Magic Knights Rayearth that is in english, dragonball Z, saint seiya, samurai X in portuguese (my language) and doraemon in spanish
Cause I'm japanese, its like everything has to be in Japanese (cause some of the names are pronounced horribly). Its a lot more comforting. Not to mention the fact that it helps me with my japanese
Will you be my butler from Hell?
It's not just that.. but I watched a lot of Japanese Dragon Ball when I could because of the extreme censorship that befell it in the states. I also have no problem with Nozawa Masako's voice.. she's iconic in Japan. Hoshino Tetsuro (Galaxy Express 999), the obvious Son Goku, Kintaro (Urusei Yatsura), Kitaro (Ge Ge Ge no Kitaro).. I could go on.
So I became used to Son Goku's Japanese voice, and no I can't watch Dragon Ball without it. It fits his still very innocent/pure personality. Sure he's not the Goku from the original Dragon Ball by Dragon Ball Z.. but part of the classic Son-kun still shines through.
Then you have to take into account not just how they sound, but what they're saying. The current DBZ dub adds crappy speach whenever possible. It can't stand when there is no dialog at all.. Which usually ends up in some pointless drivel added in.
Oh and can you honestly say you like Piccolo's current dub voice? Listen to him in Japanese sometime.. Now THAT is Piccolo Daimaou.

I got used to the high pitched voice, especially since the translation in all versions of DBZ is so bad. Entire motivations are changed, characters don't stay the same (ESPECIALLY Son Goku)... If you're a fan of the original Japanese show, it's pretty well ****ed.
A good example is at the end of the Vegeta/Nappa arc.. in America Goku begged Kuririn to not kill him because "that would make us as bad as him... etc etc.." While in Japan he begged him to spare his life because he wanted to fight him again. He had never met someone so strong, and wanted to become strong enough to best him in combat.

I watch what I can get, usually, since I download some of it. I'd rather watch in English, just because I can pay closer attention, since I'm not focusing on subtitles.
Sometimes I don't like the English voices, though. I find Japanese to be a pretty language to listen to, and will sometimes switch between the two choices.
I like Bleach in English, but I think Ichigo's actor isn't nearly as expressive as the Japanese actor. The other voices are not a problem, except that they changed Sado around ep 85 and I don't like the new sound. Rukia as always sounded off to me in both languages, older than she looks. But I suppose she is older than she looks.
I also noticed in the Urusei Yatsura movies, the only one I like to watch in english is Beautiful Dreamer. Everyone sounded about right, and Lum had a sweet, gentle voice. The other five movies have her sounding like a bimbo, and in second place, I don't like their versions of Mendo either. I watch those in Japanese.
I've seen Gantz in both, and liked them equally. I've watched Full Metal Panic both ways, and found I prefer the English version. Same goes for Ouran.
But I would never let having to read subs keep me from watching something.
So far the only anime that I don't watch in english are not released ones or Madlax (dear god, that was the worst dubbed anime from 2000+). Oh, and I suppose some of the Media Blasters anime that don't contain dubs.
The few animes I have watched were both dubbed and subbed and I made a point to watch both. The few I haven't watched weren't dubbed at all coughSayonaraZetsubouSenseicough.

anybody have any preferences on shaman king?
Things that I feel have to be watched in English:
Ghost in the Shell
Akira
FLCL
Samurai Champloo
Cowboy Bebop
Fullmetal Alchemist
Trigun
Zoids: Chaotic Century
.hack//SIGN
Deathnote
I'm iffy about saying Evangelion because the Japanese dub had a few really good voice actors, but overall I think the English was better.
"The color fades along the intervals I follow."
Normally in whatever language I watch the anime first is the one it sounds best in to me, like trigun has to be english the japanese voice actor don't get the same comedy out of vash as the english one does, but thats just my point of view.
