Have any of you messed up a meal you were attempting to cook so bad it turned up inedible?

Just this morning, I messed up badly trying to make an omelet. First, the top of the salt container fell off while I was shaking it above the omelet, causing a downpour of salt to rain upon the unsuspecting meal. Then I burnt the hell out of it, and...

Well, let's say my usual answer of adding doritoes to an inedible meal can't help here.

Anyone else care to share?

I don't make omelets as a rule, because I can't get the flip down, so you're a better man than I for even attempting them. On topic, though, when I started cooking, I burned hard-boiled eggs by cooking all the water off of them (I wasn't paying attention) and scorching the shells and the bottom of the pan. It took hours to get the smell out of the house and weeks for me to even try and make hard-boiled eggs again. :/

The trick is all in the wrist. It's easy if you flip tortillas like I do most of my life.

I tried to cook a dinner for my parents' 7th anniversary(my mom and step-dad). It was Steak, baked potatoes, green beans and salad. Well, lets just say that the steak burned on the grill and one steak was literally burnt to the grill. It took 3 hours to get the whole thing off the grill. The ordered chinese food that night. xD

I burnt my hashbrowns the other day D: and I'm really bad about burning my grilled cheese.

I'm not good with judging if something is cooked enough or not, like bacon. I don't like it crispy but I'm paranoid about undercooked pork. Same goes for chicken. Not to mention I can't sit there and stare at something the entire time its cooking, I'll get bored and something will distract me. ><

Regarding the bacon/chicken issue: I can't say much about bacon but if you cut the chicken a little and take a peek inside you'll get a good idea if it's cooked or not.

@Blood_Storm: Good try though. The first time I cooked meat, the fire extinguisher had to be brought out.

@Cross Marian: If itt makes you feel better, I once burned a cup of instant noodles.

hhahahaahahaa. Everyone makes me laugh. The only time I have cooking disasters is when I'm cooking with my 3 year younger brother. He tends to get distracted or tends to add ingredients that shouldn't go together. But then again he has an excuse so I don't get mad at him.

I was known as disaster boy in that class ruining every meal I made. At least I gave it a go yes? But something kinda funny happened once, I flipped a pancake and truthfully it just about landed down a girl's shirt.

Lmao, I'm lucky that the girl was partially a friend of mine or that could of really been bad but people called be perverted after that incident, not very good but in a few days they forgot about it and moved on.

This type of situation happened every time my kitchen group attempted to cook. We weren't very motivated, and always the last out of the room. Even when we did try, we did something wrong.

How do you go about cracking the egg? I find just causing a little crack and opening it with my thumb helps make sure no bits of shell get into the pan.

I do it the exact same way. When I do break a yolk, it's usually during the flip. When it happens, I just make scrambled eggs.

Well, practice and I'm sure you'll get the hang of it. It took me years to crack the egg without breaking the yolk.
