I'm looking for another series or 2 of manga to start buying. I'm mostly looking for something away from mainstream. So no Naruto or One Piece. I pretty much enjoy any genre, but I do really like fantasy, comedy and/or battle manga's. Though with that said, I'm open for an genre manga if it's good. Please list me a couple of suggestions and I will look into them.

    Thanks in advance!

Hello, I have recently run into a shortage of anime to watch that would actually keep me entertained and am looking for suggestions/recommendations.
    Here are a few series's I enjoy:
    -Wolf's Rain
    -Akagi
    -Cossette no Shouzou
    -Darker Than Black
    -Death Note
    -Ergo Proxy
    -Gantz
    -Gilgamesh
-Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni(all of them) and Umineko No Naku Koro Ni
    -Ima, Soko ni Iru Boku
    -Jigoku Shoujo
    -Jyu Oh Sei
    -Mouryou no Hako
    -Texhnolyze
    -Tokko

Anything similar to those would be perfect. Demographics don't really matter to me, as long as a series can keep entertained. I do however, prefer series's like those.
Thanks ahead of time, to all those who suggest (a) series(s), I greatly appreciate it.

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could recommend any anime?

I'd like something similar to Chrono Crusade, The Soultaker (especially), Basilisk. Basically [almost] anything with a supernatural angle to it. Not too modern though, more like a post-apocalyptic setting or something similar. I'd appreciate the help please. Thanks ^.^
And not to pull your halo down, around your neck and tug you off your cloud,
but I'm more than just a little curious how you're planning to go about making your amends to the dead.
Your halo slipping down to choke you now.

Love - Slam Dunk, One Piece, Major (first 4 seasons before it got repetitive)
Liked - Naruto, Hunter X Hunter, Hikaru no Go, Dragonball Z
Enjoyed - Prince of Tennis, Hajime no Ippo, Bleach
Okay - Shaman King, Get Backers, Eyeshield 21, Chrno Crsusade, FMA (gonna watch Brotherhood soon), Wild Striker
Not a Fan - Kenshin, Death Note (i can see why so many people like this and it is definitely intriguing but i just couldn't get into it), Evangelion, Cowboy Bepop, Flames of Recca, Fruit Basket, Akira, Yu Yu Hakusho

I like sports animes and currently watching Koroko no Basket which is okay. I'm not familiar with the term but I guess most of the animes I really like are consider Shonen? I like long animes versus the short 13 or 24 episodes ones that have a good story with character development and lots of good action of course. The type where the main character starts out kinda weak but gets stronger and stronger. Not a fan of romantic stuff. Prefer ones that are newer as well. I heard good things about Fairy Tail so will probably watch that next and looking into watching Sword Art Online, Oda Nobuna no Yabo, Katekyo Hitman Reborn!, Kenichi: The Mightiest Disciple, Code Geass, D.Gray Man, Soul Eater. I am looking for any romance anime that people are willing to give (I will watch any kind if its good---yaoi,yuri or hetero).

    I have watched:

    Clannad and Clannad AS

    Kaichou wa Maid-Sama!

    Ouran Highschool Host Club

    No.6 (I believe it counts)

There are a few ones I wont watch:

    School Rumble

    Jonjou Romantica

    Anything hentai (big no-no!)

I have nothing against the two above animes, but I just don't want to watch them.

I am also looking for a good romance manga.I have read one : I Am Here! I hope to finish there series with volume 2 & 3.

    Any recomendations would be nice.

Please list me a couple of suggestions and I will look into them.

    Thanks in advance!

I suggest Nabaro no Ou.I started it,and I think it is very good.It is like a smaller and different version of Naruto, mainly for similiar ninja lore.It is better in my opinion.

For comedy,I suggest Hetalia Axis Powers (manga and anime) and Hetalia World Series (this is just anime).Though I warn you of being a fan.You will find some things you don't want to see,and some people who are jerks.

Another very good anime, though not one of thise genres,is Clannad and Clannad AS.I can not suggest them enough.

Kaichou wa Maid-Sama!This is very funny, even if a shojuo.

None of them are too mainstream, though Hetalia has alot of fans.

I hope you like them well enough!I loved them all,and I hope you do too.

I wen poof for awhile, huh? Sorry, I guess I just kinda...dropped off. School started.

When now I'm back, have more anime under my belt, and am ready to join you all again.

    Hello there!

I'm looking for anime to watch, and I'd like to request some recommendations! From the outset, I'd like point out that I'm probably older than your usual anime viewer, and for a while I have been losing interest as anime seem to be generally geared towards the younger crowd. As a result, I am really picky about my anime, and this has been causing me problems in finding enjoyable anime to watch.

I watched a literal truckload of anime when I was younger, and whatever popular anime series or movie you can think of, I have most likely seen - therefore I am mostly looking for newer releases (the newer, the better).

In as broad and general terms as possible, I am looking for anime that:
    • have an interesting, deep story or present a compelling mystery
    • have really strong characters
    • are of excellent quality in art design and animation (this is also why I am looking for the newest releases)
    • have excellent comedy
    • are not ecchi and definately not harem
    • are not excessively childish and/or simple
    • are not too confusing (ex last episodes of NG: Evangelion)
Not all of these have to be fulfilled for me to enjoy an anime, however. To give some examples, Higurashi no Nako Koro Ni is a recent series I have seen and is by far still my current favourite. It contains childish and annoying scenes, and the art design is mediocre, animation terrible - yet the story, the mystery, and the shocking scenes gave the childish scenes a place to be there. The second series Higurashi no Nako Koro Ni Kai was also good, but I felt it dragged on a little and became a little too family friendly towards the end.

Two other examples of anime I really enjoyed would be Accel World and Sword Art Online. Both series are guilty of pandering and the occasional panty shots or boob close ups that irritate me, however their art style, animation and the fascinating setting or world the story takes place in gives them a huge thumbs up in my book.

Sword Art Online would be a good example of an anime with a strong character and a unique way of telling its story which by all means is rather simple and seems somewhat familiar (.hack//Sign *cough*), yet is enough to have me hooked. Also, has a love story done right (so far, anyway!)

In order to not make this post too long, I'll just briefly list some noteable anime and say why I liked,

Death Note - Awesome story and great characters. Uninteresting after you know what happened.
Full Metal Alchemist - I'm one of those strange people that actually preferred the original to the remake. Characters <3
Another - A personal favourite of mine.
    Madoka Magica - Loved it.
Twelve Kingdoms - The story, the characters and the setting. A character that grows and does not stay stupid. Genius.
Baccano! - Great comedy with a great way of telling its story.
Full Metal Panic - Also a favourite. Comedy done right!
Outlaw Star - Comedy with a good story along with it.
Claymore - It was alright. I do not see why the outfits were necessary, but the story was alright.

    or disliked them,

Mirai Nikki - The girl with the pink hair is probably my favourite character of all time, however the story itself seemed uninteresting, and everyone seemed to behave unnaturally - which disconnected me from the story.
High School of the Dead - Shut it off after the first episode. Loved the animation, however the excessive ammount of ecchi simply turned me off.
Kingdom - CGI animation anime is a terrible idea, imo. Tried to get used to it, but failed.
Bleach, Naruto, Dragon Ball, FMA: Brotherhood - I'm somewhat lumping these together to give an example of anime I'm probably not going to like. I loved these when I was in my early twenties, but I feel that I've just grown out of them.

I hope this is enough for you guys to go on. I've tried to watch 1-2 episodes of the newest releases recently and I literally wanted to gouge my eyes out and jump off a bridge. No offense, but as I said I feel somewhat too old for a lot of anime out there. Hence, I'm here asking for assistance.

    Thank you!

Long story short, I am looking for anime where male-on-female abuse is treated/presented as acceptable. Here are some guidelines:

    1) It doesn't have to be humorous; whether it is or not, the show just has to treat it like there is nothing wrong with it.

    2) Male-on-female doesn't have to be the only gender combination for it to take place. There can be female-on-male or monogender abuse; male-on-female just has to be there.

    3) The abuse in question cannot always be mutual; at least part of the time, it has to come solely from him onto her.

    4) Abuse is not just physical. It can also be in the form of humiliation, threats, manipulation, etc.

So far, the only examples I can think of would be Excel Saga (where Il Palazzo does things to Excel, such as shooting her or sending her down a trap door) and Amazing Nurse Nanako (which is all about playing Dr. Kyouji Ogami's abuse of Nanako for laughs). That is, unless you count manga, in which the only other thing that comes to mind for me is Love Monster.

A hard request :o You can try:
Ergo proxy, there is strong characters, great story and good quality but unfortunately sometimes it will confuse you...
Code Geass, because if you like death note, I think that you'll love it (if you're not strongly against mecha)

    You can also try:
Angel Beats, that's a wonderful anime with strong characters but maybe you'll find it too childish.

Sorry I can't help you more because even if I understand you're feelings (I'm pretty old myself) , I'm not bored by childish animes, ecchi and harem XD

As confusing as Ergo Proxy might be, I'll give it a shot. Thanks! I've watched about half of Code Geass' first series, and it was really enjoyable. I stopped watching because... actually I have no idea why I stopped. I'll continue once I have some free time o7

I've seen it and it's.. alright. I didn't appreciate the change of the light hearted comedic tone to the more serious one that occurred. Also, the relationship between the main character and the white-haired angel girl was seriously underdeveloped. It felt really weird to me and I feel like the anime screenwriters (whatever they're called) dropped the ball on that one.

Now that I think of it, a similar change of tone happened in Steins;Gate, but it felt better presented. Could be just me?

Now, that's a tough one. I can give you examples of anime where cross-gender abuse simply does not happen, or where it is at a minimum. There are also a few anime where women are violently murdered, but I don't believe that's what you're looking for.

Come to think of it, I can't recall any western movies or TV series where male-on-female abuse is treated/presented as acceptable either.

This is probably a dumb question, but... did you try watching hentai? I've seen quite a few that have that.

I know. Total BS, isn't it? I mean, I don't seek to abolish "acceptable abuse" altogether, not least of all since some shows specifically run on it, but at the very least, we should have instances where male characters get angry with females, and the latter is barely able to argue back. That is just basic in life, and there is no reason why it shouldn't hold true in fiction, just like there is no reason why women on TV and in movies should only talk to each other about men and only to men about other topics.

I was actually told, though, that in pornography in general, abuse of males is actually far, far lower than of females. But, that stuff doesn't actively interest me, to be honest. Closest I've ever watched to hentai would be Ultimate Girls (only because I have a fetish for girls' embarrassment, which the show makes a whole point of. I also normally prefer stuff I watched to be dubbed, but sometimes make exceptions.)

Don't know if you are still around to check a reply given to this but here i go anyways. I haven't watched it in a long while and was one of the original anime shows i started watching when it was on toonami years and years back and that show is "detective conan" or "case closed". It fits the description of what you like very well. i would definitely suggest it to anyone and its still ongoing btw and has been running and making new shows and manga volumes and such since not too long after i was born. Thats the only thing i could think to recommend to you since everythign you've seen i have seen as well.

It fits the description of what you like very well. i would definitely suggest it to anyone and its still ongoing btw and has been running and making new shows and manga volumes and such since not too long after i was born. Thats the only thing i could think to recommend to you since everythign you've seen i have seen as well.
Thank you but already watched 10 episode or so and didn't like. (get better later?)
I'd prefer thing like Gosick where you have a real chance to guess what really happened before the main character tell you.
    Thanks anyway

Hard to tell with this little information (didn't saw gungrave, shaman king and monster) but if you liked Code geass you should try Death Note

Death Note is simply THE. BEST. ANIME. EVER. if you like this kind

You seem to like more "serious" anime so I'd go for

Hellsing -- Vampire -- Only anime that's better in english
Ghost in the shell -- futuristic japan -- counter-terrorist organization
    Elfen Lied -- Bloody --
    Claymore
Steins gate -- time travel -- good after the sixth episode
Fullmetal panic -- mecha -- both serious and humoristic (not sure about this one for you)

If you don't like them, post back I'll try something else

Looking for shows that are like digimon. Not necessarily random pet fights random pet, but more like one where a group of kids go on an adventure and the season/show follows an overall plot and not just one random thing after another like pokemon.

I don't know much anime like that but I'll recomend you some I know starting with the ones that best fit what you're looking for.

    Avatar, the last airbender
    - You probably know this one

    HunterxHunter (2011)
    - After becoming 12, Gon leaves his home and takes on the task of entering the Hunter exam, notorious for its low success rate and high probability of death to become an official Hunter. He befriends the revenge-driven Kurapica, the doctor-to-be Leorio and the rebellious ex-assassin Killua in the exam, with their friendship prevailing throughout the many trials and threats they come upon taking on the dangerous career of a Hunter.
    - This anime is still ongoing with episode being release once a week. There's also a older version, probably good but I didn't saw it so I can't tell

    Fullmetal alchemist: Brotherhood
Two brothers lose their mother to an incurable disease. With the power of "alchemy", they use taboo knowledge to resurrect her. The process fails, and as a toll for using this type of alchemy, the older brother, Edward Elric loses his left leg while the younger brother, Alphonse Elric loses his entire body. To save his brother, Edward sacrifices his right arm and is able to affix his brother's soul to a suit of armor. With the help of a family friend, Edward receives metal limbs - "automail" - to replace his lost ones. With that, Edward vows to search for the Philosopher's Stone to return the brothers to their original bodies, even if it means becoming a "State Alchemist", one who uses his/her alchemy for the military.
    - Probably more serious than what you're looking for there's some sad, SAD moments

    Naruto
    - Naruto closely follows the life of a boy who is feared and detested by the villagers of the hidden leaf village of Konoha. The distrust of the boy has little to do with the boy himself, but it’s what’s inside him that causes anxiety. Long before Naruto came to be, a Kyuubi (demon fox) with great fury and power waged war taking many lives. The battle ensued for a long time until a man known as the Fourth Hokage, Yondaime, the strongest ninja in Konoha, fiercely fought the Kyuubi.
    - This is an anime about "ninja" (more or less)

    Soul Eater
    - Maka & Soul Eater, Black Star & Tsubaki, and Death the Kid with Patty and Liz Thompson are the characters Soul Eater revolves around. Besides taking the time to gather souls, these students of Shibusen defend Death City from some of the most powerful of creatures while still attending school and trying to become stronger.

    Katekyoushi Hitman Reborn

    - Known as "No Good Tsuna," Tsuna has never excelled in sports, school and social life. One day, his life takes a dramatic turn when he meets Reborn, a mafia assassin who shoots him with a Dying Will Bullet. With Reborn around, will Tsuna finally get rid of his undesirable title and become worthy to sit at the head of the Vongola Family?
This one start more or less random but get really good later
    - An anime about "Mafia" (More or Less)

    Ao no Exorcist
    - Humans live in the world of Assiah, demons in Gehenna. The two dimensions are not meant to interfere with each other, but demons still possess creatures in Assiah in spite of this. The humans who can fight these demons are known as exorcists. Rin Okumura is a boy who bears the curse of being Satan's illegitimate son. His foster father sacrificed himself to save him from demons. To avenge his foster father's death as well as to prove himself, Rin decides to follow the path of an exorcist.

That's the best I can come with... Not exactly what you're looking for so if someone else answer your request it will probably be better.

    Edit : forgot...
    Tengen toppa Gurren-Lagann
-In the small village of Jiha, Simon, a shy boy who works as a digger discovers a strange glowing object during excavation. The enterprising Kamina, a young man with a pair of rakish sunglasses and the passion of a firey sun, befriends Simon and forms a small band of brothers, the Gurren Brigade, to escape the village and break through the ceiling of the cave to reach the surface, which few believe exist.
-lots of people will say that's one of the best anime there is... Personnally I don't like it but you may if you like mecha

I'm looking for animes where the N.S.D.A.P/nazis are shown as the good guys/neutral guys. I don't wanna see something where they're evil monsters wearing big robot suits and eat babies.

    What do you recommend?
