Problematic advertisement

There's a flash banner that eats all of processing power. It gets so bad it's hardly possible to scroll the page or type text on pages with that banner (I can get several seconds of delay between keypress and response).

Oh good lord! That is a HUGE ad! Though, I haven't actually encountered it, I can see how it could pose a problem, if I did.

It fills the window you open it. In the browser, it only fills a regular banner size.

That is why I hate overly detailed flash ads. There was one on another site advertising the "Dragonball Evolution" game. The easiest solution would be to right click the ad and set it on low but it will reset.

A quick search of yahoo yielded this, you can make use of it since you do have some programming experience.

You'd think for a program like flash that has been around since forever they would've made an option for it, but no.

The quality setting has no effect. The problem is probably that it is poorly written. Instead of waiting between every frame, it likely just starts to draw the next frame instantly. Which eats a crapload of CPU.

Flash in Linux is a bit retarded. It doesn't seem to use the graphics card at all, so everything is done in software emulation mode (which eats a crapload of CPU.) Add to that a lack of pauses between your frames, and you'll make the firefox process eat a lot of CPU. The system will only give the process so much, so when it asks for some CPU times to do stuff like handle keyboard input, it will not get any (since it's already asking for a ton of CPU time), making it slow as hell.

I'd say just disable flash altogether. And enable it when you need it.

Firefox should be about the same for both our OS's. Tools - Add ons - Shockwave Flash - disable.

Unless the site that this ad is on relies on Flash. IE Newgrounds, youtube, etc. You could look into flash blocking programs or search Mozilla add-ons for something similar.

I used to use a plugin called flashblock, but it was buggy and made my browser crash at random.

I use 'flashblock' too. But it hasn't made my browser crash until now. It works pretty well, blocking all those annoying ads, and hasn't given me any problems at all.

Why would somebody set up a huge banner? Somehow, I don't think the Artix Entertainment team made it, since the word Dagesvard lacked an "r" after "D".

Well I have not had that kinda problem in a long time but, it sometimes depends on which browser you're using. A lot of ads like that tend to have more of an effect on IE rather then Firefox but sometimes there is no way to stop it and you just have to refresh the page or close the browser and reopen it if possible. I hope that was of some help
The only other thing is to use pop=up blockers. But most pop-up blocks block the ads but, they also block things that you often may use. So it can be hard to find the right ones. More so with IE then Firefox.
