Hiragana and Katakana

I started learning Japanese not too long ago, a few months maybe? Well... I've been having a little trouble memorizing the characters for Hiragana and Katakana... I'm not that far unfortunately

Do any of you know of any neat activities that can help one memorize and learn the characters?

Here's a few.
く/Ku= Looks like a "KuKu Birds beak. I'm aware it's mispelled, but it's a good tip.
り/Ri = Two rods next to each other.
き/Ki = Key

The Hiragana/Katakana charts were a big help to me when I first started to learn. I've mostly memorized them by now, since it isn't very difficult if you study and practice writing each character, as well as using some to form words.

Buy a blank notebook. Write the higarana until you break your hand. At least, it worked for me. Kanji is a bit more difficult, since you have 2000+, not only 40-50 (I don't remember the exact number...).

just write and write it untell you remember it,just write anywhere at any time. . .
give your self test and see if you wrote it right. . .
as you write you'll remeber what is what and all. . .
well for me,i did that and learn it in no time ^ ^
doing that with kanji right now.

Don't bother with that. Too complicated and cumbersome. We didn't need these things when we learned the English alphabet.

practice a lot. whenever you have time, of when you are taking break from something else. just write it all down. or write words you know. also, read simple text, like child stories, you can find a lot of them online.

and practice practice practice

it only took me a couple of hours to memeorize them both..so i guess u could draw them on notcards then scramble them up and keep picking a card and see if u know the characters...or u can do what i did look over them a few times and write down the characters in order of what u know
