Anime Purchasing Woes

Okay, so I've been doing the whole anime thing for a while, and I've collected quite a bit, and once again at the end of this month I will be purchasing some things. - I need some sugguestions on what to do

I only purchase box sets, that being said, I have $168.00 and wonder what I should do?

Should I:

Get $30-40.00 Box Sets(Which may allow me to get up to five) which would possibly be shorter series.

Or Should I get $50-60.00 Box Sets, which may be fewer sets, but be longer in series?

Sugguestions on Which I should get as well, would be open and welcome.

I Will NOTBuy the following series

Medabots/Anything of a TV/Mainstream Nature.

Reasons why I should buy the series( AND PROPER SPELLING(IE: You/not u) Would be apreciated

One: All box Sets listed above, Are complete unless otherwise noted and are Region One LISCENCED DVD's I do not Pirate, therefore unreleased Pirate sugguestions will be ignored

How dumb can AF be? Someone asks to BUY anime and call them spammers but the "RECOMMEND ME AN ANIME TO DOWNLOAD!" gets left out in the open.

I would recommend:
Buso Renkin - It's probably the only good shonen anime to come out in 2000+ from Shonen Jump.

Human Crossing - It doesn't have much extras for a Geneon boxset but still
epic series.

Tide-Line Blue - Honestly not that great a series but the ending is quite nice.


If anyone recommends Negima! ignore them.

It's Novastar! Wow, I haven't seen you in forever.

Note: not sure what qualifies as "mainstream" since some of my suggestions did air on TV, but anyway here goes:

Cowboy Bebop: I imagine you've seen this one by now and have already decided whether you like it or not. If you did and simply held off buying, now's the time, you can get all the Remix DVDs (with better audio/video) in a boxset for $40 or cheaper.

Fantastic Children: a great obscure sci-fi/mystery tale that follows the story of a boy named Tohma who befriends two orphans who apparently are connected to a group of mysterious children who have been spotted throughout various moments in history. Definitely a hidden gem worth checking out (avoid the dub at all costs, this may the worst dub Bandai has ever released). Available in a $30-40 boxset (some versions include the soundtrack, so check before ordering)

Fullmetal Alchemist: see Bebop, imagine you've seen this already. Anyway, Funimation just released the whole series in 2 $50 boxsets, the cheapest the series has ever been.

Ghost Hunt: a creepy horror story that follows the investigations of the supernatural conducted by "Naru", Mai, and their teammates. Very spooky (the "doll" arc personally creeped me out), and definitely one to watch with the lights out. Available in two $30-40 boxsets

Noein: To Your Other Self - another obscure sci-fi gem. This one follows teenagers Haruka, Yu, and their friends as they face both mysterious visitors from a dimension showing their future lives and the unknown paths that they each take as they are slowly growing up. Available in a $30-35 boxset

School Rumble - a hilarious and crazy romantic comedy that follows the crazy situations these love-struck classmates Harima, Tenman, and co. find themselves in. Starts off decent, but soon as the cast expands and the crushes begin to add up, the insanity builds and the comedy blasts off. Season 1 is available in a $40-50 boxset, the "between seasons" OVA is available for $15-20, and Season 2 is in two $30-40 boxsets.

Shakugan no Shana - an action/fantasy/romance story that follows a boy named Yuji who is attacked by monsters and is saved by a "Flame Haze" who is named Shana. Yuji discovers his very existence is at stake, and must work with Shana to prevent himself from disappearing from existence completely as well as protect his friends from the same fate. Available in a $40-50 boxset (Season 2 is not yet licensed, though Season 1 does have closure to the story for the most part)

I avoided genres you didn't seem to like just to be safe (since you only own one mecha, I figured it must not be your thing, so I didn't mention Evangelion, any Gundam, Full Metal Panic, Eureka Seven, etc.)

Haibane Renmei - Existential, philosophical, symbolic and thought-provoking this anime is absolutely incredible.
You'll laugh, probably cry, and perhaps reflect upon your own life.
If you're ready to break free from the standard anime cliche's and go on a spiritual and emotional journey; watch Haibane, however, if you need constant action and can't view something that requires thought then stay away from this as you will probably just find it boring.

I may add more to this later as I have a ton of things I could recommend, but we'll see.

Gankutsuou - Based loosely on the literary classic "The Count of Monte Cristo" Gankutsuou is a fantastic tale of revenge and betrayal.
Every character in this anime is well developed and fleshed out, even the minor characters have their own back story's that tend to be more complex and interesting than most main characters of other series.
The first thing you'd probably notice about the series is the unique animation style that's truly unlike anything seen before, this along with the soundtrack featuring famous classical pieces provide for a great atmosphere.
If you liked the novel, watch it. If you hated the novel, watch it as there are more than enough changes for it to be intresting. If you've never even read the novel, watch it anyways as it's great and shouldn't be missed by anyone.

yea same here i only buy box sets i use to buy alot of anime imported online but now thanks to funi and adv things got a little more cheaper
buy whatever looks good like gunslinger girl or excel saga
