I generally do not mind. But, I'm tired of hearing Yuri Lowenthall and JYB. They're good and all, but they're everywhere.

It'd be different if they had varied voice acting approaches.

I don't mind, in my head they are all different. When I'm watching it in japanese for some reason all the voices seem different to me, in english I can recognize it more, but then again I don't take anime that seriously in english anyway.

No, I don't know. Who are you talking about?

Anyway, this is about dubs or the originals? I don't really have a problem with the japanese ones. Yeah, they use the same seiyu now and then but I guess I get caught up on the actual characters too much.

Ichigo in Bleach sounds like one of the characters in Code Gaess and I think he's voiced by the same actor who voiced the main character in SCRYED.

Batou is voiced by the guy who voiced Jigen in Lupin III and he's probably the same actor who voices one of the Bounts in Bleach.

I don't really mind. Characters are characters, no matter which voice they have. And if they don't have that many good voice actors, why not use some of them for more than one anime? But that aside I like the japanese voices more than the German synchro here. ^_^ And they also don't show that much anime here anyway -_-

Well are you talking about the dub, or the original japanese? Because the dubs are a fairly small market, the amount of actors who specialize in anime dubbing is going to be small, and there will be a lot of actor re-use. Thats just the nature of the market. Lead male characters are often voiced by Vic Mignogna (Ed Elric[FMA], Broly[DBZ], Ikakku[Bleach]) or Johnny Yong Bosch (Ichigo[Bleach], Lelouch[CGeass], J.D.[GITS:SAC], Vash[Trigun], Kiba[Wolf's Rain]), and only a handful of other actors, so of course you'll notice them repeat often.

There are a lot more Japanese voice actors, but of course the more popular ones will get lead roles more often, so while its not as bad as the dub market, there will always be some voices that you hear more often than others.

It doesnt bother me-I generally get into the story enough so that I dont really think "Oh, this guy played played Vash, too"...Anyway if the guy is a talented voice actor, isnt it better just to reuse him other than getting some terrible nobody that will really ruin it for you?

Exactly. The worst recent non-4Kids dub I've heard was Fantastic Children's. Simply awful, you'd actually assume 4Kids did the dub. Checked out the VAs who did it, and sure enough, they're mostly nobodys. Best to get the usuals if new actors can't hack it.

(note: if we're talking dubs, I highly recommend everyone check out Baccano!'s recent release. Funimation nailed the accents here, and Issac and Miria in particular were just done perfectly)

With the recent influx of how American voice acting for anime has gotten so repetitive, it's become more or less a priority of mine to listen to anime in the original Japanese. The voice acting over there is by far more expansive; and often, at least to me, more original and heartfelt.

With regard to what some others here have already spoken up about, two of the most repetitive V.A., American-wise, are Yuri Lowenthal and J.Y.B. Don't get me wrong in that I'm suggesting they're bad; quite the opposite. However, as it is with so many things in life, too much of a good thing turns into a bad thing, and, at a certain point, simply becomes 'sour' and unbearable. I simply can't throw myself into the storyline of even a good anime when voices that I've heard four or five times over are continually being used time and time again. They don't suit everyone that they are being made to portray. No single person(s) should be made to fulfill such a wide cast as they have in such a short period of time, at least in my opinon.

With all this and more in mind, I long since made the call to abandon any hope for American V.A. and devote myself to the original Japanese.

I love english-dubs and all the voice actors. They get into it so much its so funny! xD Some of the voices you hear more OFTEN than usual are usually the very best voice actors out there. You know every female-anime-fan loves to hear those male voice actors go at it. I know I do~♥ <333~ They're very talented. They make it NOT boring. :/

english dubbings are the worst!!! not only are they repetitive with the voice actors but they're always squeeky and DONT GO WITH THE CHARACTER AT ALL!!!!!

I've heard very few dubs that were any good, but also very few that were actually bad. The majority of dubs are average, in my opinion, which works nicely with a standard bell curve.

You make it sound as if that would be really easy but it is not.

I will say that sometimes the dubbing for an anime can be less than good and that it does get annoying to hear Johnny Yong Bosch's voice everywhere I turn (he just HAD to have 5 seconds in Resident Evil Degeneration). However, I understand why this is so, so I do not really complain about it.

Japan produces 60% of the animated series in THE WORLD!! Because of this large number, voice actors in Japan (seiyu) are able to make voice acting a huge career and there are so many things that can be done. Not only do they do voice acting for cartoons, they do commercials, video games, radio dramas and foreign television shows and movies (Japan shows more foreign movies than domestic). Some even move on to being singers. There is a lot that you can do as a seiyu in Japan.

In America, there is not a lot of push for voice acting (I don't think there is any). The entertainment sector is not cartoons, its acting. Broadway, movies, television; that's where the money is. Voice acting is not going to get you very popular or get you a lot of money, unless you are really, really good at it and even then, you would not be famous for your voice in a cartoon. It would be from a movie or something. America simply does not have the huge pool of voice actors that Japan has, so they can not pull out new voice actors whenever they need to or whenever fans feel like it. Plus, anime is a very niche genre in America. If a person decided to voice act, it would most likely be for something more prolific like a cartoon movie, not an anime (remember, anime is not NEARLY as popular as some people think it is).

While there are some, not a lot of people grow up with the inspiration to be voice actors in America (if they do, it is for something specific and not just voice acting in general). Again, unless you are good at it, there is not much you can do. Most of the more famous voices actors started off doing something else before becoming voice actors or are doing something else on the side:

Johnny Yong Bosch (Lelouch, Code Geass): Played Adam the Black Power Ranger in the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers; has his own band (Eyeshine)
Crispin Freeman (Togusa, Ghost in the Shell: SAC): Broadway actor
Colleen Clinkenbeard (Riza Hawkeye, Fullmetal Alchemist): Actress; ADR director for Fullmetal Alchemist; producer and writer for Tsubasa
Vic Mignogna (Edward Elric, Fullmetal Alchemist): Graphic Artist; Singer
Mary Elizabeth McGlynn (Motoko Kusanagi, Ghost in the Shell): ADR director; voice director; singer (sang the songs in the Silent Hill movies plus two Dance Dance Revolution songs)
