    Default Is it happening?

Hey there! It's Farelove. I've been a member of this forum/galleries for quite sometime and wow. I really can't believe how much time has passed since I was a newbie on this forum and a HUGE fan of anime. But, as time passed on... I seen a twist in time

Has anime started to die out?

I'm not sure if it's really true but I just seen it a little bit in the changing times. I still love anime and I find the art amazingly beautiful but, a lot of newer anime isn't the same and it's lost its gleam. Does anyone feel the same way? some of my old friends from TheOtaku feel the same way too.

I don't believe that it's losing interest; I just think that the artists aren't the same (I know they're not the same) and they're just not drwing as well. That's all.

I understand what you're saying and I feel the same way.
Ever since Toonai was taken off; It felt weird watching anime and stuff.
Now it's just these lame cartoon shows taking over..But I'm finding newer ways to get into anime again. Anime will never die out.

I don't really think so. More that it's becoming mainstream so it doesn't stick out or is as unique as it once was.

I like newer anime better. Stuff made in the 2000's is my favorite. Like: Penguin Musume Heart
    Gokujuo Seitokai
    Midori No Hibi

Somewhat. Anime isn't what it used to be.

Pop quiz, What is GAR? Exactly. It's more along the lines of people won't go anything before 2000. I can count the number of people who have heard of Black Jack or Violence Jack. Anime fans are becoming beawoos and Japanophiles instead of anime fans.

the dubbing is really messing with the original luster of anime, namely the "believe it" america put with Naruto... that alone made me hate the anime...

but yeah, i have noticed a small lack of interest stemming from anime in general, but its prbly just because we're all just getting older and finding other things more interesting....

Well Past 5 Years or so there was a Massive Spike in Anime so that may be what your talking about, but I haven't really noticed anything really since I just watch/ read fairly casually so I can't keep up with it no matter what.

This is what I call Americanization which in my terms is basically just taking something original and slowly turning it into idk... In terms of Anime you could say more like American Tv x.x.... Honestly reason I was drawn to Anime to begin with was the notable difference in the style of shows. Almost Uncomparable.

All this Dubbing etc to suite Anime and stuff to an American Market is what may be causing this damage. Idk just a hunch... personally Dub's just make me cringe and almost die inside... Seriously If I watch A dub I can't make it through a couple words before I want to hurt my self >.<

Anime is something that is and always has been changing. I've been watching for nearly 2 decades, and it's very obvious. Even if you go back in time, anime in its present form is considerably different from how it was it was first created; in art style, animation, and story.

If you look at what was popular with anime, for example, in the 70s it was Super Robots, whereas today it is long-running-shounen (though this is a trend that really began in the late 80s and early 90s. More popular examples are Dragonball Z and Yu Yu Hakusho) and moe series (Lucky Star, To Aru Majutsu no Index, Yuutsu no Suzumiya Haruhi, etc. See Pink Paper's post.)

Another trend is a focus on individual and groups of characters and their interactions, as opposed to events, environment, etc. Today's stories seem less intricate, but characters as a whole seem to be progressing. Anime are more and more giving people a world that people can "enter", and become a fan almost inside of it, rather than just "watching", and becoming a fan of it.

Dio also made a really good point. I've liked anime since before I can actually remember, long before anyone else I knew here in the US did. As I've seen, the people around me who like anime and manga limit themselves to the media that has been produced after 2000. There is, of course, exceptions to this, such as Pokemon, Digimon, Dragonball Z, Evangelion, Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star, etc, which brought anime more into the mainstream of the US in the late 90s. Not to say anime is "mainstream", but it is considerably more popular than it used to be, and I'd think most people are somewhat aware of it's existance.

While the "mainstream" of anime is going in one direction, there is still a number that maintains a bit of an older style, if not a very old style all together. But these often do not become popular because they do not get the same attention here in the US, because, for the most part, we only get the most popular anime, since that is what's proved it can be profitable. Again, this is a bit of a generalization. One Piece for example is the 3rd highest selling Jump manga of all time, but does not sell very well in the US in comparison.

Well, not really. Apparantly, we have been watching anime from a long time back and during those time, the concept of art, story, even tools for making anime were different. And so, as time has passed by, there are many improvements in the anime sectors with new directors, writers, an entire new breed of voice actors. So, there are a lot of competition, which brings out option for innovation, an urge, a compeltion to try something new, try to bring out new way of presenting anime. So actually, with new age, anime has evolved and it is still evolving , and if we feel it has started to lost it's gleam, we are not accepting the new era of anime. It's quite natural to feel so as we grow up. But the recent anime are not bad at all. It's just that, they are not too appealling for our mature conscience.

Not really. Anime has gotten lazy and being based on light novels and visual novels. I like some mainstream anime, but more of mainstream old anime fans would get.

What is with the double standard? In the Japanese dub, Naruto says "dattebayo" and "-ttebayo" all the time (and still says it in Shippuden), oh but there is a problem when he says "believe it" in the dub? These words are suppossed to make him more arrogent and annoying (if "believe it" annoyed you, it did its job). Plus, "believe it" matches the mouth flaps created when he says "dattebayo".

Anyway, I don't think that anime, in general, is dying. However, in America, anime is not nearly as popular as some people think it is. Anime, as a whole, has never been that popular. Shows like Pokemon, Digimon and Dragonball were popular but the anime genre was not.
    This is my war face.

This is what happens to trolls who mess with me.
