Church Denies Communion To Obama Voters

This was a while ago, but still funny. Maybe I'm the only one.

COLUMBIA, S.C. - A South Carolina Roman Catholic priest has told his parishioners that they should refrain from receiving Holy Communion if they voted for Barack Obama because the Democratic president-elect supports abortion, and supporting him "constitutes material cooperation with intrinsic evil."

The Rev. Jay Scott Newman said in a letter distributed Sunday to parishioners at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Greenville that they are putting their souls at risk if they take Holy Communion before doing penance for their vote.

"Our nation has chosen for its chief executive the most radical pro-abortion politician ever to serve in the United States Senate or to run for president," Newman wrote, referring to Obama by his full name, including his middle name of Hussein.

Any Catholic Priest relying on an argument of Guilt by Association probably should step away from the ledge. If people who voted for Obama are baby-killers, then people who continue to worship in a Catholic Church are clearly child-rapers.

Damn straight. It's just a clever way to punish people for voting Democratic. I bet everyone that this wouldn't have been an issue if a Republican supported abortion, and won the elections. Now that we have a Democratic president, the church won't get much of a say in issues.

The Church has been making a fool of itself lately. For example- the African-American minister who said that Obama was a wannabe white-man. Or the other church who condemed Obama for having the "same eyes as Bin Laden". If I was the church, I'd be pretty embarrased.

I actually understand the Church's position and agree with them.
If you voted for a pro-abortion candidate that means you don't believe abortion is a sin, and thus not a follower of this church.

I guess the catholic church threw out all that "God loves everyone" stuff and just went with "God loves Republicans". Which seems backwards because its usually looked upon as Democratics care about peace and Republicans go to war. And how does the church know who voted for who? I would have just kept my mouth shut if I knew I was going to be ostracized for having seperate political beliefs among my Catholic beliefs and community.

Im not a religious person but this is truely a disgrace. I mean, who are these people to deny the body of Christ to anyone-- to hold themself above all others to choose who recieves holy communion? One definition for 'Blasphemy' I found was -the crime of assuming to oneself the rights or qualities of God. Am I a little off on this or is this a fairly accurate and correct phrase for all this? Is there a better word?

I wonder if Pope Benedict got word of this yet. Id like to check out his opinion and the Vaticans on someone withholding such a sacred act from any of God's children. And John Paul... *sigh* he'd be sheding tears right now watching all this.

Well No one should be denied their communion for how they voted. It is not for man to judge if you are so inclined to be a believer.

But before we throw the Catholic Church under the buss for one situation remember this...

In all honesty Obama won the Catholic vote.
So more Catholics voted for than against. I think It might be the future is more brighter than we imagine.

Now a lot of that might be because of African American Catholic turn out more than white votes as well. But still That is a lot of votes coming from the Catholic church. Just saying it might be better than we know.

If that was the true intent, why didn't they throw out the people who voted for Bush in 2004? He's clearly for imprisoning people without sentencing them and torturing them- are these Christian values?

More importantly, Obama is pro-choice, not pro-abortion. Obama believes, as much of America does, that forcing women to become unwilling incubators is more of a sin then killing a fetus that has a 1/5 chance of death before birth anyway. And that's without even getting into Stem Cell research.
