Kanon and vista

I've installed Kanon under Windows Vista, but I can't get it to run properly. When I start it everything seems fine, I click the first option in the menu and a snowy background shows up and a box that seems to be meant for text. But that's it. I've tried a few compatibility settings but the don't change much. Anyone got any idea what I should do?

I'm also wondering if there are any english translations out there. If there aren't I have to go hadcore and translate it myself despite the fact that I don't know japanese. :P

Goddamn I hate this crappy os, too bad I'm too lazy to get linux working properly I bet that there are more windows apps working under linux than vista. :P

Why not just stick with good old XP? I'm not budding from XP, not for a very, very, very long time. It's working fine for me so far so no need to upgrade.
