Well I can't offer any proof, but I am sure my mother did not lie about this. She said she heard on the news that in Tokyo a girl got arrested for killing off someone's online roleplay character. The girl was furious because the guy broke up with her, so she got mad and killed his character. In Tokyo, it is a law, that if you kill off someone's roleplay character, then you can be arrested, now she is either staying in jail for five years, or has to pay a fine of 5000 dollars. I'll find proof of this when I can, but the law in Tokyo sounds strict to me..This law is very whack o.o and I disagree and I think she should not of been arrested, but it is Tokyo's laws, so what does everyone think on this?

Sounds a lot like a hoax. I mean, so what, you can just ignore the session, or have some divine intervention or something revive your character. I'm sure the DM will be reasonable about it.

I'm pretty sure she got arrested because of hacking into that person's character to kill him off. I'm guessing hacking is an offense there, but I'm not for sure.

From what I read, hacking into another person's computer to mess with files or anything was against the law, not killing off the persons character.

Maybe is was the type of online RPG system, similar to the 'Playonline' one in which one must pay lots of money to create and keep a character on a game. She might have deleted this character from a member list causing a monthly bill being wasted with money still being paid through to the company.

Or it could be a simple case of hacking an account online and demolishing the character in which he paid money to make. The 'killing character' part may not be the worst case in this (if it is in fact true) as one can usually make another on online RPG, but if not and this person paid for the game or programme with a lot of money, only for a girl to come and terminate the character in which only has one chance to live before the player has to pay more money to create another one, then that could be bad too.

I think that it is either a case of money being wasted, or hacking.

As noted, killing off the character had nothing to do with it.

It was the hacking that was the illegal component.

I think the issue is silly especially since it sounded like he SHARED his information with his digital wife while they were married, before she even "killed" his character:

"The woman used login information she got from the 33-year-old office worker when their characters were happily married..."

Maple Story couples tend to give away their information when they get together, which is stupid, since Nexon even tells users that "You should not share your password/pin with other users, regardless...blablabla".

I really don't think she got arrested for a very valid reason... It sounds more like he gave his information away to her, rather than her hacking him.

Yea, my mom told it a bit clearer this time, she got in trouble for doing something to the character's persona, that is why she got arrested.

In other words: The girl probably hacked to get the character's info and then she either deleted it or did something that drastic. It's not the changing, it's the hacking. Hacking into someone else's belongings is serious. Not really the info, but the server.

Yep correct lol, but I think the girl over reacted.. so she lost her online boyfriend, is it worth going and hacking the person that broke up with you? The girl should of been smarter and just left it as a break up.

It's a girl. If it was her time of the month again then it's not that strange. Girls are known to overreact to most things when in their period.

In MS the characters can't kill off each other, so probably not. But MS is a very boring s.b. for a MMORPG.

Yes indeed. And seriously, there are too many MS hacking guides on the interweb. Even every little kid who plays MS would know how to hack through the system.
