Except these can "fly" using the same motions that they used to swim, and they're usually "cloaked" being barely visible as a shimmer if moving, totally invisible when still, but becoming visible when they attack.


The posting quesiton is: When there are a number of players involved, should I just post results of things or what NPCs say right in the thread.

The advantage of PMing things to a player is that it lets them speak up if they thing something wasn't done right or fairly. Very common if bad things are happening. And it's possible I'd actually miss something. On the other hand, it can lead to a bit of confusion if players are moving each other around.

Say, with Kevin's Intuition and Increased Senses linked (Sea life has a bit of a pungent smell.), would Kevin be able to detect when an orca is coming?

The intuition ability is more about you using OOC knowledge and getting "hints" about things than a combat ability.

Your increased senses in wolf form however notably modify the roll for an Orca to sneak up on you.

And yes if one were perfectly still so it was totally invisible Kevin would have a chance at sniffing it out, and would definitly notice if he were right by the thing.

PM sent (and, unusually, posting in the thread as well, though without the detail I leave you the artistic licence to add to make it more interesting)

On rolls, since we have new people. The basic process is that when players or NPCs are opposing each other I sum together the relevant abilities (with modifiers), specify one as wanting high values and the other wanting low values, and roll a dice with that many sides using an online dice roller.

That probably was confusing. Lets have an example with a simple combat. Player A has combat 30 player B has combat 40

I'll roll a 70 sided dice, and specify that, say, player A wants low. results from 1-30 are a "win" for player A, 31-70 are a win for player B. Results further out to the extremes produce more lopsided results.

All rolls also go to Faerytaleangel, so it could be confirmed I'm not fudging. I used to send them all to Ragging Pinnaple vender. But I can remember Faery's e-mail address off the top of my head, and always have to look up Pinnaple's so there you go. (Hmmm I should probably just take the time to look it up for rolls that affect him)

As shifters take damage the spirits basically hold them together (that green glow that's been mentioned a few times). Combat abilities drop fast with damage, other abilities weaken and fade as well, however the spirits keep movement and evasion abilities functioning as long as possible, at least for short bursts.


I haven't posted all the details of everything, such as how modifiers are determined etc. In part because I don't want the system abused, I don't want players to feel they can't participate without reading a heaping pile of rules, and I don't want the drama associated with arguing over details.


Note that it isn't just for combat. The same generally applies if, say, one character was trying to use their fast Parkour like ability to keep up with someone else using an ability like that.

Adding to Sunnyside's example, someone like my character Jean is not very good at offense. However, he has crazy defense abilities. So fights involving him when he doesn't get blind sided and not have his big honking regeneration power working tend to get drawn out. Other characters are heavy on the offense side and do crazy damage, but they better attack first since they lack the ability to take it.

I've sent another reply to Ragging about his interactions with the whales, but after that I think I'll hold for a bit, at least half a day, to let some of the others get a chance to do something like Silver, maybe change of color, maybe Catz. That also reduces the odds one of you gets killed, so that can be a good thing.

Alright. So while I presumed Miria would choose to duck out from under the falling Orca, it seems she chose to hug/protect Oneo.

Adorable, and certainly her choice. But it does make posts I and Zen made a bit off. We'll work with it going forward and probably backedit some stuff for consistancy. And I'll split the damage Oneo took from the falling Orca between her and Miria.

But thats why, usually, I've come to prefir PMing people results of their actions and seeing if they wanted something different than how I was interpriting things.


As for getting them out, with Willow and Stephan already pushing they'll just need a bit more help pushing, or for the Orca to get lighter, or something of that nature to make a gap under the Orca. Lots of people have vaious options of how they could do something. Willow and Stephan are free to yell advice or requests to some of the others.

Why don't you let me kill them off? I've been waiting to kill off Rain for a while. Cappy, for a long time, I've had it with him. He can hate everyone except for a select few all he wants.
