Why do you play the games you do?

I play games for the whole package, does it look good, does it feel good, is the story something I like, the characters.
For me its the whole package and it has to be fun. If it isn't fun I'll be mad.

Same here. I like it to be all around entertaining. If it isn't I usually give it away to a family member or friend, asking those whom I think would like it first if they want it. Someone always takes it. And why wouldn't they? Free game. Who cares if it's good, it's not like you're wasting any dough on it.

I also look for good storylines and characters in games. Quests to achieve. Puzzles to solve. Things to destroy or shoot. That sort of thing.

I play games because i have to play games at any cost. I wont live a day without placing my hands on my oldest of consoles to the newest consoles. It isnt about that graphics that matters me , it isnt about the Saga , no question about friends , its nothing at all that matters me.

For me its like water , i can live without water for one day but not without games please. Its all about having a good time and improving your skills and more then that having fun for hours in gaming and just like that i spend hours in gaming , thats what games are for me. I never considered any of the things like graphics , you give a game from the oldest of time and the newest game yet , i will play it. And yeah , no matter how boring the game will be , you will still be watching me playing it. (thats why my eyes are red half of the time...hee hee)

I like to read. But sometimes I'm too lazy to read a book, so I play visual novel games since they have pictures and music.

That, and I'm attracted to drawn girls.

Any other games I play, I play mainly because I refuse to grow up: like Pokemon.

I play games mainly for their plots and characters. Game play is also significant. After all, how is one supposed to play a game if its game play is abhorrent to the point that playing it is improbable? Graphics are an added bonus for me. If a game has good graphics, that is great. If it does not, it is not a big deal. Granted, I prefer to see games look good graphically, but if they do not, I will not hate them by default.

I play games because my friends are having a clan match at night online so i have to play too. They suggest me that i shouldnt stop playing so i play games.
And i dont really consider any of the facts like graphics and all.
I just play them.

Plot and gameplay. I love RPGs and tactical shooters. Probably why my two favorite games are FFVII and Metal Gear Solid 4. Both had amazing story and gameplay.

As for graphics, good graphics are really nice but don't always make a perfect game.

IMO you're right on the money - the best games play well (have good game dynamics, pace and mechanics) - like unreal tournament, half life, or pop;sands of time (again IMO), and a good story, which i reckon is somewhat rarer, and not altogether necessary - if you have an audiobook, it can be fun to play a mindless game and listen at the same time.

I, as you may have gathered, am more of an action/shooter player, with occasional tidbits of other genres thrown in...

Incidentally, what role do you think convincing npcs have in a good game - i think they can be quite important. also do any of you play mmorgs or anything - in which case surely community is a big part?

Firstly Its always been graphics & for me. Secondly if its a multiplayer game, friends. Genre comes next, I play mostly MMORPGs and PC Games (no console crap here)

least concern is Plot, i mean i dont bother about the plot since i know the bad guys loose and i must win in order to complete the game XD

but GTA series and Saints Row 2 are the only plots i really bother to follow

I play JRPGs for 2 reason plot and boss battles.
If a game has the best plot but a crappy battle system I wont touch it, not even with a 10-foot pole!
If the game has the best battle system but a crappy plot, I don't mind that one bit. I care mostly about the battle system, because to my way of thinking, all the joy in an JRPG is boss battles.

I pllay the games I do most of the time for the plot. If the plot doesn't seem good then I look for the next thing on my list which is graphics. If the both of those things suck in a game you won't find me picking it up.
The only exception besides those two games is if it's a Digimon game, I'll do anything to support Digimon Digital Monsters. Through their best games on to their worst.

Here's the odd thing about the games that I tend to play...

Usually they're hand-held-i.e. they're on the DS. So that makes it portable and easy for me to take with.

Or, they're computer games...like MMO's that I like to play. >:

And then, in those types of games..I tend to like a decent story, cute or well done graphics and a game that's easy to understand and control. o-o;
