    Default Worth it?

I have been Lightly Studying Japanese ( Self Study) For the past Couple months, I have gotten decently far at least to my accord ^^ >.>..

Anywho been wondering about Secondary/Post Secondary Japanese Classes Lately. For my Senior Gr.12 year I was thinking of Transferring to the only School in my town which has Japanese, It is on a Semester System so idk how many classes of Japanese they would even let me fit in.

But I was wondering if anyone here who have done both College/ High School Japanese would know if its even worth bothering with High School level Japanese? I would Prefer to just do it at College if Possible, but I don't want to deny possible learning more Japanese ^^

So Any Help on this dilemma would be great

Hmm it sounds like a interesting opertunity, But switching highschools during your senior year... Just sounds a bit out of place. Im sure you could study it in college, and do fine.

Although, you can always try to learn through programs like rosseta stone, or just off the internet.

Depends.I got it by force therefore hate it.If you want it to watch anime, it probably won't help."I'm gonna kill" isn't taught until level three.I've done Japanese high school level, and was easy and Canadian and American standards differ.

I wouldn't switch schools over it. I'm taking Japanese in college and not having any problems, but since you're self studying a bit anyway, I would recommend memorizing hiragana and katakana before taking the class, because though they teach it in college they don't give you very long to get it down (We had to have all the hiragana memorized in a week). I'm sure a high school class takes them slower.

Well there's one thing I can say.
In high school last year I took the AP Japanese class and now in college I'm taking a third year (?) Japanese course for credit. (The highest offered level at my college)
The AP course was more difficult and more detailed as of now. But it seems to me that the college courses, while going at a faster rate, seem to be more for non-native speakers. Or maybe it's just me... but it seems less informative. (Plus in the other class we never once spoke any english so maybe that contributed to it and now this class seems way beyond me...)

I'd say wait till University/College. I started learning Japanese in University, and literally, we started from あーいーうーえーお, and the most complicated thing we learned in the first class was わたしはnameです (actually not even true; we didn't learn Hiragana till week 2 or 3). In Canada, anyway (or at least in my school), they start you off *really* basic, so you should have no trouble starting off there.

@Aka Ari Kurosaki; I am taking Japanese for more reasons then just for watching Anime

@Darc Satos; I have a Ripped version of Rosetta Stone ( Don't scold me I don't got 500$ to fork out) and a Actually payed version of Rocket Japanese, But Self study only Brings you so far. Really not ideal way to learn a language.

I learned Japanese through Self-study (4 years and counting). I have never taken a class on the Japanese language, although it was offered at my high school. My results? I took and passed the Level 2 JLPT, the second highest level for the test (the people who pass this level are classified as being "Near-Native"). Self-studying takes patience and dicipline. A person needs to make a commiment to learning the language since they are on their own ("lightly" studying Japanese is not going to get you anywhere).

I do not recommend that you transfer schools during your senior year just to take a Japanese course. Its not that I don't think that you would not learn anything in a high school Japanese course (from what I hear from my friends, you will learn a lot pretty quickly) but it is not worth changing schools over, not for your Senior year, unless you really, really need to learn Japanese. Plus, most colleges (as far as I'm aware) will not give you advanced status (meaning you don't have to take the Freshman course) if you have taken less than two or three years of a language. That means you will be taught the same beginner things that you learned in high school all over again!
    This is my war face.

This is what happens to trolls who mess with me.

Maybe High School is almost over so you should wait for College and take Japanese there.

Ya been busy lately so haven't had much time to study Japanese, but Hopefully going to start studying more lately, My main goal would be to skip first Course of University level Japanese, or might be tempted to take it anyway as a refresher.

Listening to a Japanese phrase I will pick up the context of the phrase I just need to learn more about different rules about verbs etc.

Most likely won't be taking the High school Japanese, Only last worry will be checking if I can even fit Japanese in, since First year I imagine I'll be jammed full of Academics and second year+ I am doing a Co-op.

If you start in HS, you will have a good start when you enter Uni. And you might be able to skip ahead to a higher level. If you are interested, then go for it. If you can't, or are unable to fit it in, then just wait until Uni.
