Why Do Girls Fall for Gregory House?

House M.D is a really popular show around my town. It's talked about all the time. Either people love it or they hate it, all based off the main character, Gregory House. After having conversations with many people here's a question for you. Why do girls fall for House? He's a miserable self-centered jerk!!! I must admit i too think he is rather interesting. Why do you think this is?

Well, it could have something to do with the fact that it is an American show and Hugh Laurie is British...? I don't know, but it seems to me that alot of the American female population have preference for British/Irish accents. So they watch a show, where even though he is a self-centered jerk as you put it, that is purely based on the fact that a gorgeous middle-aged British man is a doctor. If I had tv right now I'd watch it for that reason. XD

and plus women love jerks for some reason.

International is also right in this. I don't know what it is... But we do. At least I do. Then I end up kicking myself for it... >_>

Who exactly is falling for him? o.O I think he's an interesting character, and that Hugh Laurie plays him superbly. Also, where would the show be without him? It's somewhat a sign of poor writing, but every other character is perfectly expendable. The show would move on without them. All except House.

As for the female interests on the show, I would say it has a great deal to do with the personalities of those women. It's not that they're attracted jerks so much as they're attracted to men they feel need them. These women see house as a brilliant but broken man, one who requires just the right amount of understanding and affection to become "whole" again. This kind of neediness can be extraordinarily powerful.

I'm a huge fan of house, I'm so excited for the new season. Season 5's finale was so good. And as for all the characters being expendable, I agree to an extent but I think the show would be seriously lacking without the back and forth between him and Wilson.

House M.D. is written by men for women who like abusive men.
I wasn't all into season 1, it's kinda poor story wise, but I'm a big Hugh Laurie fan so I stuck through the season and it's turned really good.
And now I love Dr. House, I'd do him.
People are in general fans of characters like him, take Dr. Cox from Scrubs.

And some people want to watch a "hospital show" where the story is deeper than "Who slept with McDreamy?" and characters deeper than a bunch of blonde bimbos and the biggest manchild character to ever have been on tv.

I first thought Hugh Laurey was attractive when I saw him in 101 Dalmatians. His role as House really has nothing to do with my attraction towards him.

I think the gullability and annoying tendency to fall for them, of some women..a lot of women...a crapload of women, when it comes to jerks/self-centered, pompous bastards, has been pointed out well-enough. Abuse is fun! Even after all that feminism and equal rights stuff, being treated like completely inferior garbage is liek, SO ttly hawt!

But, as for House, I haven't seen but two episodes. I prefer Scrubs, and Dr. Cox <3. tho, I still want to try to get into House. I'll try soon. x3

I was a big Grey's Anatomy fan, right up until Washington left. But, it's just..far too shallow for my tastes. And, to be clear, my tastes have changed a lil since season one. once again, Scrubs. Besides, Elliot is hotter and more appealing than anything on Grey's *-*.


Fabala -is- right about some women liking men in the vain of House and Dr. Cox, because they want to "save" them. I have a female friend who is like that. I guess fixing something broken is more exciting than dealing with something..sane and stable. No wonder I am single. Dx Actually, I, in some ways, fit that mantra. I can be a cynical, arrogant, complex bastard, too. I can't lie. XD But, mostly I am charming, sweet, and gentlemanly. ;D

I'll make an adjustment and say everyone else was expendable until the end of this last season. While his relationship with Wilson has always been interesting, Wilson himself has been underwritten to such an extent that I can easily see someone else being slotted into his role. Until the finale, that is. Wilson the character has suddenly gained the potential to be oh so interesting. I hope the writers take advantage.

Though I will agree that the British accent is hot...depending on where in Britain they are from. Some accents are hotter than others.

As for the character, I think most women find him interesting, but I think most sane women would think twice about getting involved with him. Being right all the time...or needing to be right all the time tends to turn most people off.

Haha. In fact, when Hugh Laurie auditioned, the director said something along the lines of, "This! This is what I wanted. Someone who sounds absolutely American!" My wasn't he surprised to learn where Laurie is actually from. Made for an interesting dynamic between him and Jesse Spencer (Chase, who's Australian).

Having lived in New York and New Jersey (where the show is supposed to be set) most of my life, I can say his accent is pretty convincing. It definitely comes across as Northeastern in origin, but not terribly specific beyond that, which is good.
