Just to let all you people know, I did get approval from LadyPSerenity. This is my first time being Game Master of an RPG so please bear with me. Also, I'll most probably be able to check back here almost everyday so there's no problems there. OK, let's start....

RULES:

2. No killing off someone elses character without their permission
3. All other RPG forum rules apply (obviously)
4. Being a RPG about magic, spells can be made up, but please keep rule 1 in mind

Aether Chronicles

History:

Many years back a great mage whose name was never known appeared to take control of the magic underworld. He was after the power of the perfect element known as “Aether” and wished to use it to rule not only the magical world, but that of the human world too. The average humans lived their days unaware of the threats, however the magical community was thrown into chaos. They all seemed helpless at the power of dark lord. However, one mage know by the name of “Shimizu Seta”, a drop out at magic school and a completely hopeless mage managed to defeat him. In their final battle, the great mage used a disintegration spell and the dark lord turned to dust. Unknown to the great mage, the dark lord transferred his presence into the ring in his right hand, the second of his death. Shortly after the battle, the great mage disappeared without a trace, never to be seen again.

Fast forward a few years later in modern day Japan stands a school named “Shimizu Academy” stands in place of the battlefield that the great battle happened several years back. Unknown to the outside world, what looks like an average middle/high school is in fact an academy where mages and other magic users can learn the foundations of their magic training. The school utilises spells that keep ordinary people away. If a mage speaks of the magical world, or anything of this sort, the punishment will be stripping of magical abilities as well as a memory wipe.

Major Locations:

The School is the main place where the RP will take place of course.

Shimizu Academy: All things bout the school are listed above mostly.
- Library: The library is a place where the students and staff may access information on the magic and historical events in the magic world. There is a forbidden area in the library where only staff are permitted to be. What the staff do with the books is completely their own business however students are not permitted here.
- Dorms: Being a boarding school, this is where all students stay. The people in the rooms are scrambled and no student is placed in a certain room for any certain reason.

Magic World: When referring to the magic world, this is not a location. It is merely a way of describing the “underworld” if you like, where magic is present, and regular humans are unaware about. The human world and magic world are physically the same thing.

The Elements:

When going through mage training, a mage may choose to specialise in a certain element. Spells can be broken down into several elements depended on their effects. A mage usually chooses to specialise in a maximum of 2 elements, however there are rare cases that a mage specialises in 3. A mage has the ability to use spells from an element out of their own, however the effect of the spell will be significantly weaker. (Spells of elements below are only an outline, RPers may make up spells as long as the element is directly related)

Fire: The ability to create and manipulate fire and create heat. The spells included in this element are mostly offensive spells.

Water: An element that allows the user to manipulate water and transfer currents of magical energy on it. Spells included in this element are mostly the manipulation of water for healing or miscellaneous in battle.

Wind: The power to create strong gust of wind or adjust the air pressure. Offensive spells in this element, as well as the ability to manipulate aerodynamics for enhanced speed.

Stone: The creation of stone pillars or spikes is an ability of this element. Defensive and offensive spells are found in this element, petrification spells are on the higher level of mastering this element

Lightning: The ability to manipulate and create electrical charges. Offensive spells are this elements major strength, however the ability to stun is a unique attribute of this element.

Wood: Using this element allows you the ability to grow plant life and manipulate it as well. A summoning style element, conjuring plants, fruit, even poison are common for this element.

Ice: The complete opposite of Fire, this element allows you lower the temperature down to subzero and beyond. Spells of this element are mostly freezing spells.
Light: A popular element, the ability to manipulate energy in the form of light. The most well rounded element allows for offence and defence as well as low level healing.

Darkness: The forbidden arts, although it doesn’t immediately mean evil, this element is frowned upon because it is the element the Dark Lord mastered. All spells in this element are self damaging to all of body, mind and soul. The intangibility of this element already shows the spells used here are mostly unknown.

Metal: No this element does not refer to metal exclusively, it refers to enhancement spells and allows the user to be able to perform unimaginable physical feats.

Mage Class:

Class? Isn’t “Mage” a class? Mages can be divided into categories depending on how they use they’re spells in combat and in everyday use. The categories or ‘classes’ are as follows:

Mage-in-training: A mage who has not reached a stage where they have decided what path they want to take.

Mage Fighter: This class utilises spells as a supplement to their actual fighting ability. Mages of this class are usually skilled fighters without the use of magic.

Wizard: This class uses magic alone. This class is usually more skilled in plain magic spells.

Alchemist: This class of mages utilises potions to enhance their spells, such as catalyst potions that allow slow spells to be utilised quicker.

Support Mage: A mage that specialises in healing and supplement spells. Thought they do know other combat spells, this is what they specialise in.

(NB: Other classes may be created as long as it is not godmodded and it has an explanation of exactly what the class is.)

History: Tanaka is a teacher at Shimizu Academy. At the young age of 8 he demonstrated his innate ability to spell cast. An accident with his first incantation saw the death of his father, and his mothered died later of natural causes. He himself was fascinated with the history of the school grounds, and is a topic that he would speak very fondly of.

Being a child prodigy he graduated at the age of 14, skipping many grades to get to where he got to in the end. He complained at the end of graduation that the spells teachers had taught him at the academy were “impractical and of no use in battle”. An ongoing secret of his is that he would sneak out of the dormitories at night and study other spells in the forbidden area at the school library.

History: The descendant of the great mage, you’d thing that she appreciates her family history. However she claims that the family name of hers is a coincidence. When she first showed signs of being able to use her powers, her guardians forbid her from using spells for a time, because she had created the effect of a darkness spell. She was abandoned by her parents who’s locations are currently unknown, possibly for the same reason she was forbidden to use magic when she was young. She is quite the stubborn girl and avoid discussion about the “great mage” of the past as best she can.

History: Sora grew up learning the art of Fire and Ice, but behind her parents' backs. She knew they did not know magic existed, she kept it a secret. Sora thought that if they found out, they would throw her as an outcast. So, when she was old enough, she left her home and parents to Shimizu Academy. Sora's magic grew stronger everyday, and soon decided to help people and became a Support Mage. She hasn't seen her parents in over 5 years and has almost completely forgotten about them, only caring for the art of Fire and Ice.

Name: Adam Sandalphon

Age: 15 according to his birth certificate

Class: Most likely a wizard

Spell Incantation: Unknown (his doll foci are mute)

Appearance information: Unknown. He has never been seen

History: Very little is known about Adam. His past seems average judging from the information the records. He was homeschooled his entire life. According to records his parents mostly worked over seas leaving him to learn by himself. He appears to have learned quickly and as he places at the top of every standardized test he has ever take. Cross referencing to police reports, there is a notation that about when he was 12 there were sittings of “walking puppets” that “moved without strings”. It is believed this was Adam. He apparently used these simulacrum to commit small thefts since they could not barter with humans nor could he or did he ever leave his house.
Eventually, he entered Shimizu academy and got a single room in the dorms. No one has ever seen him though. The only way people know he moved in is that his room was suddenly locked with a large bolt and several dolls and marionettes appeared around campus.
These dolls appear to be under Adams control and act as his surrogates. They seem to sense in the same way humans do at least in terms of sight and sound though they share a hive mind (which would most likely be Adam’s mind). One is able to tell what another is seeing and Adam uses these puppets to take part in multiple concurrent classes, an act which would otherwise be impossible.
These puppets also carry pen and paper by which they may make their wishes known. They all share a strange way of speaking. They never refer to themselves in the first person either singular or plural (i.e. they never use ‘I’ or we) rather they say ‘this one’ or ‘these ones’.
Finally, these dolls seem to be foci, which means that Adam can cast spells through them as though he were there in person. Its most likely that given how used Adam would be to using foci this is probably just as easy for him to do as if he were casting himself.

Aleister wears make up MOST of the time, usually including White face powder, red lipstick (It can change to black) with red eye shadow and fancy eye liner designs. He usually dresses formal, wearing a black button down shirt, black vest, pants. He'll wear stockings (Black and white striped, howeve ryou don't really see them) along with his converse. He has a wide set of ties, but he loves his checkered one. Another thing that he tends to keep with him is his hat.

History: Aleister was born into a magic family. He follows the philosophy that Magic is spelt with a "K" due to it is the eleventh letter in most alphabets, also to represent the "Kinds" of magick there are. As a child he grew up learning the basics of magick. When at age he joined the university.

There are many deviant traits of Aleister, some of which include his make up, wicked smile, a laugh that can cause chills over anyone, also his love for ties and stockings, some go to question his sexuality, hell even his gender. If people were to ask about his past he would simply say usually "What? Oh the time in life where I lived some other time back, it was fine and fair, great and grand. Nothing wrong there, sanity was great." Which implies that he was treated fairly and good, which does not explain his personality. Perhaps it's a persona out of paranoia or insecurity. Not even psychologists were able to pry it. His touch with reality came seem...off. He'll rant on about incoherent things occasionally. His responses are usually complext or simple, either way his reaction to things can be random, othertimes predictable. He seems as a walking contradiction. Pointint to a split personality. One is focused, the other unfocused. People just link it to his over use of Dark Magick. He'll also refer to the Magick community as "The Underworld".

The way he seems can make one question his ability to USE magick. Some go on that magick is cast from the mind, focus on that and the spirit along with the body. Aleister feels the energy around him, despite his mindset, He is not fully oblivious to the intentions of others. Due to a strong connection with magick and the force that surrounds all, he seems to be able to focus magick off that, feeding off it (Not giving him power, but the ability to use it when lacking a focused mind). This leads to him ranting on about "Weird" feelings within the energy, or "The Force" (Lol Disturbance in the Force).

He learned of a school for those like him and with his fathers agreement he entered Shimizu Academy where he studied diligently, becoming fairly gifted in the fields of Lightning and Wind which he used to enhance his fighting skills even further then his father could have tought him.

History: Evanial grew up in a wealthy family, though he didn’t like the life style, he preferred to do things himself than have his servants do it for him. When he was 14, he had a passion for fighting and had always snuck out to participate in fight clubs, always winning. It was during these fights that he learned about his powers, when his opponent tried to grab a hold of him, he experienced 200 volts through his arms. Evanial at first was shocked to find the man on the ground, his arms burnt. Afraid, Evanial ran home and never fought again, terrified of hurting another. This resolve didn’t last long when he came home to find his parents taken as hostages, all their servants laid unmoving, lifeless. A bunch of thugs came to rob them, and the servants had tried to help, but they failed. Anger coursed through Evanial’s veins as hatred lingered in his heart. Every thug in the room was on the ground, dead. He didn’t see what had happened, but his parents did, they saw the lightening that flew from his open palms to the 6 men. The day after that, his parents came to talk to him, and told him what he was. They explained to him that they didn’t tell him earlier because they wanted him to live a normal life. After that, he was sent off to the mage school to learn how to use his powers in the forms of spells, and learned the incantation of use each spell. In three years, he had no more power outbursts, though often when he loses his temper, the most he does is create static.

Class: Runist (Mages that are weak in actual magic prowess but supple of mind and love books are often drawn to being Runists. Runists use, fittingly enough, runs as a medium for their spells. First, they emblazon the rune with the spell they desire upon their flesh and are then able to activate the spell with but a touch. This means they can cast the spell battle allowing them to drag out the incantation to put more power in it if necessary. However, the process even if kept to its quickest, is several times longer than actual spell casting. This means that in re-activating a used run takes a prohibitively long amount of time and energy. Thus they are restricted severely in the variety and number of spells they can cast in any battle.)

History: A freshman, he seems to show a great deal of talent and knowledge. In fact, despite his only mediocre grades, he shows an awareness about facts and knowledge that can only be described as uncanny. He was abandoned by his parents at some point in the past (the exact time remains unclear) and had to live off the streets for some time. However, he was eventually taken in by an orphan outreach program that straightened him up and put him into school. However, he developed a habit of skipping classes in order to head over to a library not to far from Shimizu Academy. There he read books about ancient runes that were supposedly linked with magic (this was of course not taken seriously by the author). He eventually managed to replicate a run on his own flesh.

While walking near Shimizu his rune was noticed by someone who asked him if he went to the school. Shimizu, keeping a perfect cool as if he had knew about Shimizu all along, replied 'No...but i'm going their next year'. Shortly thereafter he had been admitted for the following semester.

Still a fresh student Even shows great promise though he still has his usual habit a skipping things he doesn't think are valuable. He seems very awkward socially, perhaps stemming from his rough childhood, but generally shows an intrest and genuine desire to associate with others.

Fun Fact: There are no existing X-rays of Even's body! Who knew?

History: This will be Delanor's Senior year at Shimizu Academy. He is a straight A student but intends to get into more trouble than he can handle. He is a mediocre and trends to keep thoughts to himself. Even though this is his fourth year at Shimizu, he has made no friends. He doesn't even try to make any. Maybe this is why he gets all A's. This year, he hopes to gain more control over his magical abilities and use them for his own purposes and ways.

No one knows why Delanor only keeps to himself. Some think that it's the power of magic. Others say he had a tough past. Know one knows for sure.

History: Domino Marlo is a teacher at Shimizu. Her past was being an orphan and she had the knack for magic. Secretly she trained behind her orphanage, most of her friends thought she was crazy thinking she can do magic. They told her of her family being non-magical.

In truth Domino was a talented Witchling, her parents were what you call non-believers, but they knew that their child was going to learn to do magic if they wanted it or not.

They sent her away to an orphanage at the age of two. And soon she was part of the Shimizu Academy, knowing she was different from others didn’t bother her as it wasn’t much different from wizards and wizards in training only that she was a bit weaker.

Being a smart child she soon studied up and after graduiation giving her papers and passing a duel with a few teachers she was accepted and became a teacher at Shimizu Academy. Sometimes she can be found coughing up a little blood. No one knows why.

History:
She's born from a wealthy and powerful family, the Xues. That is, it was powerful until the dark lord's men tried to vanquish them. The reason was unknown. Luckily for them, the only daughter and sole heir to the Xues still remains till this day - Xue TingNa. She was saved by her brother and kept her hidden in an old shrine, he told her he would come back. She waited but he didn't come. After a week's waiting she was found by a monk named Liu Shen. At that time she was only 4, she was as pale as snow yet had the beauty of spring flowers. Hence calling her Bai ChunMei, white spring beauty. She had a book along with her, Liu tried to talk to her but she couldn't say anything since she was too stressed out and her mind was unstable due to the trauma, even though she couldn't remember much with what happened. She was taken to the temple by Liu, hoping the other monks would accept her. After Liu's argument with the monks she was accepted, therefore Liu had to take care of her himself like his own daughter. Taught her how to live like a monk and the art of Kung-Fu. On her 14th birthday, Liu gave the book back to her as a present. It was called "黑魔术" meaning dark magic. On that same day, Liu died. She was killed by someone right in front of her. She was fortunate enough not to be killed, thanks to the other monks who came to save her.

That night was the worst birthday she's ever had, the death of her only loved one had tremendously affected her. She asked the monks to give here permission to stay for one year. In that whole year she studied the book. The night Liu died she opened the book, there she found a letter for her written by Liu. It was an explanation of the book and who he thinks she is. Since that day, she treasured the book like it is her life. She tried her best to know as much about it as possible so that she can know something about herself and her past. She also came to a conclusion that this book had something to do with the death of Liu and her family, if she did have one.

After that whole year, she consulted the monks to guide her on her life journey. The only advice they could give was a name of a school in Japan - "Shimizu Academy". Afterwards, she left for Japan hoping she'd find what she's looking for in that school. The monks wrote a letter for the school explaining her rights to attend the school, she was then easily accepted. Now she's 17 and has learned more about herself and power. She has almost perfect her power in the dark magic but only her teachers know about it. None of her fellow schoolmates know about it, and she'd like to keep it that way. She also studies the power of Light, hoping this would gain her more strength a contradiction among her power.

History: Valtecs' childhood is unknown. One day he was found wondering the school grounds muttering to himself and using random magic. He was then taken into the school and began to learn more about magic. Where it was discovered he had an affinity with Darkness magic.
However at the same time they found out how unstable he was. People would keep out of arms reach of him because at any moment for any reason he would lash out and attack people. They blame it on the dark magic saying it has been eating away at his mind but since they know nothing of how he has used it they can't say.
Now he doesnt seem bothered about attending classes, no one trys to force him becuase most fear him. Rumours went around that he had a ally hidden in school after being heard talking to someone with a deep voice but some people think his mind has snapped enough to create two different personailties and niether of them is sane!

wow...it started already? I guess it caught the attntion of people lol. Anyway if people were in the Academy of Mages RP like Luz and Joker you'll recognize this character as well.

Name: Derek Truesdale

Age: 17

Gender: Male

Mage Information:

Elements: Technically Ice. However, his true specialty lies in his ability to play around with air and more specifically the water particles in the air. When I use magic I don't defy the laws of physics. I don't create matter therefore saying ice would be incomplete. As a result of his ability to manipulate air he can also play around with fire if it is already present in the area. Everything is explained a bit lower.

Power Specifics (Ithought I'd mention this because it's slightly more complex then just fishing ice out of my ***):

Derek’s specialty in ice magic is really just the tip of the iceberg. Derek can manipulate ice as long as the pieces are larger then a marble and smaller then a desk. This lets him create dangerous ice projectiles, create makeshift ice prisons and simply create ice pretty much wherever he wants and manipulate it. Derek can even create his own blizzards by shattering the ice he has control over. Any ice under his control can be shattered at will by breaking apart the ice itself into shapes he sees fit. Basically his control over ice is obvious however, he can’t create ice per say. Ice cannot be made of nothing but once he has it he can do a lot with it as long as it remains within his focus which is the reason for the size constraints.

However, to obtain the ice he needs for most his magic Derek has the ability to feel and manipulate air. More specifically the moisture present in the air around him but also the moisture locked in the ground. As a result he can move it around and decrease its temperature to freezing point. His power comes from the fact that he can decrease the temperature right over freezing point then immediately freeze everything in one instant that he wants to freeze and from the fact that he can amass sufficient moisture to accomplish what he wants. As a result Derek becomes significantly more powerful in the presence of a large water source like a waterfall, a lake or even when it’s simply raining.

However, this ability to manipulate the air and levels of oxygen, hydrogen and moisture gives him the theoretical tools to create water where it isn’t present. This however, takes extreme amounts of energy since it involves manipulating molecules in essence but it is doable since unlike ice Derek can sense the air around him with much more efficiency. It also gives him the possibility to manipulate already present flames by modifying oxygen levels and even possibly creating mini explosions by mixing the flame with enough hydrogen. This might seem like a violation of the elemental specialization rule however, when you think about it Derek’s ability is really the manipulation of air and at a much lesser level the manipulation of the ice he creates.

Spell Incantation: He has a few. All of his powerful complex spells require an incantation to cast due to the level of focus needed. However, the rudementary action of moving around water particles and/or freezing them has become second nature to Derek and doesn't require the focus it once needed therefore, no incantation is needed. (The list of incantations is on my other cpu and I don't feel like translating them right now but you'll read me saying them and I translate them as well).

Hair Color: Dark brown. He spikes his hair in a failed attempt to give himself a harsher look.

Clothes:

Derek goes around in an expensive suit as a way of showing off his wealthy background. Black clean pants, shined shoes and a tie obviously go with it. Around his neck hangs a silver necklace with a cross which was a present from his mom and he never takes it off. However, it is usually hidden under his collar. Around his right wrist he has a large leather wrist band with the symbol of a 4 pointed star with a broken circle at its center engraved on it.

Personality:

Derek is a snob plain and simple. He grew up never in need and joined the academy with the same mentality. Having everything he ever desired at his fingertips Derek grew up taking things and especially people for granted. In his villa in southern Canada Derek got everything but friends. Derek spent all his life with people who obeyed his every command it is kind of understandable that he never really developed much social skills. As a result Derek tends to ignore authority and especially other students seeing them as a waste of his time.

As a result of this personality Derek grew much hate for everyone, especially staff. Realizing for the first time in his life that not EVERYTHING was within his grasp Derek slowly started developing additional resentment for the people around him. However, after an entire year of solitude he started realizing that he wouldn’t get anywhere completely ostracized.

Derek usually stays in his own corner doing his own things but at least sometimes he communicates with others even though he sees it as a pain and only does it out of need. Derek usually gets in a lot of trouble with the teachers which he has a hard time to cope with. Derek is a good student that is not the problem but he tends to think so highly of himself that even teachers tend to sap his time that he could otherwise put to better use.

Even his power fits well with his personality. Derek is cold and secluded and has always seen himself in the ice he manipulates.

History: (Your characters history)

Derek is an only child to one of the prestigious families of mages. His father who made his fortune in the diamond industry is one of the richest men in North America. As a result Derek never really had to work hard to get what he wanted, far from it. Derek grew in a household where his mother and father were rarely there and he was usually under the care of nannies and other servants. Derek never really knew strict authority or social interaction. Derek started being home schooled as early as the age of 5 where he learnt quite a bit with some of the best teachers in Canada but still there he seemed to pace the classes and not the other way around.

Derek’s parents saw that this would not be a good thing for Derek in the future. Social skills were important in this age of globalization however, social skills could not be learnt they had to be gained through experience. At the age of 16 Derek was put into the Shimizu Academy which his father attended before him. Upon entering this very different environment he knew quite quickly that his life would change forever.

It was the first time in his life that Derek wasn’t completely in control of everything around him and it angered him. Derek hid behind a snob and narcissist demeanour to avoid having to deal with other students and even teachers. There was nothing Derek hated more people who imposed their authority over him. He hated authority but envied the positions of power. Derek loathed them a believed he was better fit to be in charge then any of the paper pushers or mages that ran on top. He plotted his rise the second he stepped into the building and it became the driving force for his entire school life.

Derek was a brilliant student and knowledge wasn’t a problem. Having been home schooled he was very advanced for a student his age however, many teachers and students complained about his attitude. However, he didn’t care. Their petty antics didn’t amuse him in the slightest. Acing every exam thrown his way with absolutely no effort infuriated everyone around him and despite his biggest beliefs he had never been so far from a position of authority then the day he had started craving such a position. Unfortunately for Derek nowadays you either took position by force or by the public liking you and soon Derek would be forced to confront that inevitability.
