    Default Movie Remakes.

Too many good asian horror movies are being remade by Americans pretty bad movies. What do you think is the worst asian horror movie remake?

I think Shutter has to be the worse but I haven't even it yet. The commercial made me laugh every time I saw it though. XD
The Thai version is so much more scary. Those dang movie makers have shouldn't remake movies if they can't produce an even better product.

I saw some of the Japanese version of "The Ring". It was airred here in the UK when the remake was quite popular, although rumour had it that the original Japanese version was better. Therefore I think that is why they showed it that one night.

I never watched the American version. We have it although I choose not to watch it. Not because I've heard bad things of it, I just hate the horror genre.
    Call me a wimp if you want...because you are most probably right. ^_^;

The Eye. But it was a crappy movie to begin with, if anything the american one was better though. There's also one that I can't remember the name of.. where people were trapped in computers? All I can remember is that japanese version was pretty scary.

The Japanese Ring wasn't scary to me for somereason. In fact, kinda boring.

I've never seen either of the grudge films. But I know that the US are well underway with the butchering of Dragonball... Dear oh dear.

The Grudge is Asian? I thought it only involved Asians. Anyway, The Grudge sucked. A lot.

    Oh please. Good asian movies?

You know what? I really could care less about you fetishes, but don't go insult America with your irrational bias.
I'm no movie critique expert and half the time I can't tell good acting from bad, but when I saw crouching tiger I knew something was wrong.

The American Movie entertainment industry DOMINATES. I don't like Hollywood that much, but atleast they can represent. Lots of Japanese people who want to learn English are doing so they can watch OUR movies without subs. It's like the inverse of your typical anime fan.

Now, I won't completely deny the possibility of the original Asian horrors being better. However, I gotta be sceptical because I've come across enough asianophiles in my interweb whose judgements were disturbingly warped by bias.

I never insulted America saying their movies sucked. Just saying that most of their remakes don't give justice to the orignals.

I do understand that Americans do make well developed movies like how The Hidden Fortress was partly inspired by Star Wars. I don't really like how the Asian horror movies are transformed and leaves little traces of it's the culture. I've begun to believe the stereo typing of asian horror movie remakes as not tasteful, so therefore I don't think highly of them. Nothing wrong with being bias because I do have room to change my mind.

Not an Asian horror movie remake, but an American one: The 1980s remake of The Blob was atrocious. It's just not the same without Steve McQueen.

What I want said is that it's not the fact that they're remakes of asian films that makes them bad, but that they're remakes of any film.

Passing judgement on others before you've even watched the movie is kind of dumb.

Try watching One Missed Call the Japanese version and then watch it the remake. You might then understand what october breath is talking about. Because they don't follow eachother in my opinion.
Only fools accept the obvious and go no farther.
Common sense isn't so common anymore.

I'm glad that you can give actual reasons.

It's just that other people tend to annoy me with their "see no problems" approach to everything Asian and "everything sucks" application to Americans.

I think it really ends up necessary to change the culture though. I mean, if I'm going to go watch some film horror film about some westerner, I don't wanna see some chinese joke that I'll never understand.
If the remakes really suck, it is probably because little effort was put into them.

I was thinking the same thing about films needing to be changed culturely. I'd think it be a better decision to not remake but advertise the orignal and gain a sum of revenue that way. But I think problems I'm not aware of could run into that type of situation. Besides I'm American and love Sin City too much to be talking trash about western films.

I don't want to see the movie Shinobi get butchered, so I'm waiting to see what it is going to be like remade.
