DH and I have named our kids after anime characters (Krillin and Kenshin), and we'd like to continue the theme (we're expecting our third in December). Can you please suggest some names for boys and girls? Also, please identify what anime/manga it is from.

I completely agree. I actually wrote in my blog about this because the idea of naming your kid after anime characters made me rage too hard to avoid an angry tone. But I'll try to sum up what I said.

You have to remember that your little baby will one day be an adult with their own life. Don't pick a name because you and fellow anime fans think it's cute for a baby, because babies do grow up. You are giving someone a name that will last them the rest of their life, so please do not make it an embarrassing one. Also, white kids with Asian names is just plain weird.

Flame me if you want, but I did NOT ask for your opinion of my kids' names. Naming our kids "after" anime characters is no different than naming a child after an admired family member (or even worse, just "trying to keep a family name").

I simply stated my desire to have names suggested to me. I have my own criteria for names, that I haven't disclosed. Would knowing my "rules" make you feel better?

As far as my kids being made fun of, it has NOT happened yet. If anything, I get the "weird looks" from people my age, NOT the younger generation. Many people have actually thought the names are Irish. What difference does it make WHERE I got the name from? My kids know where the names are from, and THEY think it's cool. As long as they are comfortable with it, it stays. I can always call them "Bob" and "Larry" later. oh, wait, those are VEGETABLE NAMES! Yep, they're screwed.

As to the bizarre idea that family members' names = fake cartoon/comic book characters' names (not the user I quoted, sorry), I am amazed. If it's a family member, 1) they're real, 2) there is usually some sort of emotional connection, 3) you can shut up annoying relatives by passing their names along. None of this applies with the mad mess here.
I think the worst part is that they're not even real people they're being named after. This has little to do with me, fool; I only got teased by adults. Not many first graders know who Michael Douglas is. These children are going to be ridiculed by their peers until they can legally change their names. I am a tad upset that parents' name children in themes because it amuses them with no regard to what the social consequences will be for the kiddies. They ain't pets, they're you're offspring; show a lil' more care and empathy.
If they want weird names, let 'em wait 'till they're eighteen and can change them. It isn't very hard or expensive to change your name to whatever you please.

Honestly, do you really need to make an account just to fine a Japanese name? There are sites that you can just browse through and pick for yourself. And who cares what anime/manga its from? The world as it is right now expects the name of someone to be of the same origin as them. People may not actively think it, but they do. To the world, a Caucasian with an Asian name is "deviating from the normal; bizarre."
