To me, it depends on the food and what kind of surface it landed on. If it landed on the floor, then no, I would not pick it back up and eat it. But if a hard candy were to land on my bed, or course I'd pick it right back up and eat it

Oh, Hi-deeki, imagine... your kind not eating raw fish! ^_^

Depends on the food. It usually does fore me. Once I spilled an entire box of Nerds on the floor, ate every last one too.
Well, it depends on the type of food and the floor for me. If the food is not solid or has any adhesive properties, I'll throw it away. The same goes if the floor is very dirty or has a lot of people which walk over it every day, like in a public building. Otherwise, I'll probably eat the food after checking and/or rinsing it off.
Nup. When you drop it the germs and bacteria gathers on in an instant. No matter how clean anything is, it's unhygenic ><
Depends
i dont really care bout that i only do that if my firends are around

Like everybody else it depends on the food, but if its something solid then i'll use the 10 second rule instead of 5.
Well, if I drop something then I'll try to catch it while I can but once it drops on the floor, it's game over.
I don't really believe in the 5 second thing.
Truth is a thing which only appears to those who have observed, considered, and made a choice. At the end of the path you chose lies the truth...Believe in it and continue without faltering.
Depends where I drop it.

I ain't that picky so yeh if it falls there is a chance i will pick it up and eat it i don't mind.In my opinion there is more chance that bacteria(dunno if i spelled right) and stuff will come from your hand rather than the floor so eh.Eat before the ants take it i say!!
I think that is so gross and I would never do it even thorugh my brother does it.
Depends on what it was...

Nah, I always put it in the rubbish. No use for me getting bugs, since I've already got the flu really badly.

Floor: hell no! (Except that one time with the skittles- oh come on it was like 2 seconds and i washed em till the colours were gone!)
Table: nah
Book: not the cover, maybe if it fell on a page inside. Depends.
Newspaper: no!!
Clothes: sure, once its clean. And mine.
Anyhoos, that's just a few scenarios. But generally, no.
Some people, on the other hand, dont care. They think of eating germs as giving their immune system a nice workout.
Depends on what it was, how it tasted and where it was dropped. Most of the time its dropped on somewhere cleaner than the floor.
Derp.
To be honest, I don't really believe in that 5 second rule thing. I just treat it as a saying.
It depends on where I drop it. If it's in my home, I usually pick it up, blow on it, and eat it. However, if it's wet/sticky food, I might wash it with water and then eat it.
If I happen to drop food anywhere but my home, I really don't consider picking it up and eating it. I might pick it up and throw it in a garbage can though.

According to the Mythbusters, there is no validity to the "5 second rule." Leave it for 3, 5, 10...all will carry germs.
In my book it all depends on what the food is (i.e. how easily things will get stuck to it), how much of it there is (A whole sandwich I'd be tempted to save...a small piece of cheese, much less likely), and where it lands. I'm a finicky cleaner, so there are times when the kitchen floor probably IS just as clean as a plate in the cupboard. I'm more wary of floors I haven't personally cleaned, and I can't imagine I'd even be tempted.
I live in a house with three dogs and a cat. Even if there aren't any bacteria, there's sure to be hairs on it. If it can be easily washed, like the skin of an apple, then I'd rinse it for a few seconds.
Like many before me have said, it really depends on where it's dropped and what is dropped. If it's something like an mn'm that dropped in my house, I'll pick it up, blow it off and eat it. But if it was something else, like a ball of sticky rice, vegetables, fruit, chocolate, and what not, I'd never eat it whether it was dropped inside my house and vice versa.
Yes. I'm gross. And sometimes, if I drop it again, I continue from 5 and count to 10 to add that "5 second" lineage.
I don't use it when streets and toilets are involved. That's just plain nasty!

Uh. Never ever for me. My friend always apply to the 5 sec rule in the school building, i was like: Do you apply to that rule everywhere? She: Yup. Then i asked her: Would you STILL apply to that rule if your candy fell into mud?

What is the harm done? Touching the surface of a table and then picking up food is the same thing as dropping it on the table in the first place. Everytime you touch something your fingers get absolutely covered in bacteria, and then most of us go biting our nails afterwards. You cannot escape the power of germs. If you decide to start a war regarding hygiene against germs and bacteria, then I bet on the germs.

Depends on where it falls... if I know it's clean... sure I'll eat (five secod rule... RULZ)
Depends on the area and food type.
Going by areas, if it falls on relatively clean surfaces, then yes. If it falls on, say, a public toilet floor or in a pile of horse carp, then no.
Food type wise - if it's a sandwich, and it opens, no. If not, yes. Cake, depends on if it has cream on it or not (but it's not often I go walking down the street eating chocolate gateux).
Of course, the two combine. (Somewhat) Clean floor and a crisp? Yes. (Somewhat) Clean floor and ice cream? No. Stable floor and pork roll with stuffing? Hell no.
