New IPhone(3G)

It's been a long wait, but Apple finally took the wraps off its 3G iPhone. Thinner edges, full plastic back, flush headphone jack, and the iPhone 2.0 firmware -- Apple's taking a lot of the criticisms to heart from the first time around. Obviously 3G is at the forefront, but they're also making sure it's available all over internationally, works with enterprises, runs 3rd party apps... and does it all for cheaper. Apple claims its 3G speeds trounce the competition, with pageloads 36% faster than the N95 and Treo 750 -- and obviously it completely trounces the old EDGE data. Battery life isn't getting put out to pasture though, with 300 hours of standby, 8-10 hours of 2G talk, 5 hours of 3G talk, 7 hours of video and 24 hours of audio. GPS is also a go. Apple is using A-GPS, which supplements regular satellite GPS data with info from cellular towers. WiFi data is also worked into the mix, which should give users a pretty solid lock on where the heck they are on this planet. Apple hopes to launch in 70 countries this year. 8GB is available for $199, 16GB for $299 -- and the 16GB comes in white. Apple will be hitting the 22 biggest markets, including the US, on July 11th.

No thanks. Apple is actively combating free development of software for their phones. If they don't want my software to run on their phones, I don't want their phones. Furthermore, I detest their vendor lock in practices.

It is (or rather was) on slashdot all the time. But a quick check of the wikipedia articles on iPhone and iPhone OS corroborates what I'm saying. They have gotten a little bit more lenient (I think they've even made a SDK for people to develop stuff for the iPhone), but I'm not willing to forgive them just yet. Stuff like this really pisses me off.

If I could use my Metro PCS service on iPhone right on the bat, then I wouldve considered shelling out the money for one. But no, they have to be nazis and dictate what service you use.

Apple is much like Windows now. They want to make the software for their products so they can price their softwares.

And like in another year there is going to be another iphone. This is why i do not like apple. They keep making every design obsolete. I really do not care for the iphone. Niffty idea and has a lot of innovative technology in it, but is it really worth it? I'm just going to go for a standard phone.

No, Apple hardware will give you AIDS. I don't mind iTunes, but that and SimpleText are about the only good things Apple has ever made. And even then I'd still use Sonique if the bastards at Lycos didn't discontinue it.

I have a new touch-screen MP3 player, and I have an old pink Motorola. I also have a PSP to store all my photo's which also has internet access.

An IPhone would just be a big waste of money for me and I have everything it has anyway, just not all put together to make an IPod that can ring people. A waste of resourses, I need not have one.

This is why I won't buy pretty much anything by Apple. Especially iPods. I don't even want to deal with iTunes.

Another company will probably come up with their own version of the iPhone eventually (assuming someone hasn't) so big freakin' deal, whoop-de-do, just wait for THAT to come out and pay at least $30 less for the same crap.

I don't know a touch screen is cool and all but I like to have a few buttons that might be just me though...I still want nintendo to shove a cell phone into a ds for some reason.

The problem I got with a touch screen is that I keep my phone in my pants pocket, and though it may not get activated by accident, it will defently get scratched up since its in the same pocket with my keys, Just not the thing for me to have to deal with.

My Blackberry came with a little pleather pouch for that reason. The iPhone has never had one released for it?

It would be no suprise to me if it did, because iPods had those little sock thingy's that you could put them inside. I do not see why they would not make one of the iPhone too. But if they in fact didn't then they are stupid.
