Virtual Idols killing the real thing?

Watching a little special on the E! channel brought up virtual idols, ie. Lara Croft, T-Babe, and KD98. A Virtual idol is a woman who is completely not real, no pulse whatsoever. Awesome, kool, gravy!

But how will this affect real idols? You know, Britney Spears, Kim Kardashian, yada yada yada.

Let's face it, a virtual idol can, for all intents and purposes, be perfect. Perfect skin, perfect clothes, demeanor, etc. No paparazzi can catch them shagged-up drunk, beating their kids, etc.

So hit me back, will the virtual idol eclipse the real idol??

But existence depends a bit on perception. I mean even the definition of existence is dependent on perception.

Hypothetically speaking, unless I touch a real celebrity, it doesn't make a different whether or not they're virtual.



To be on topic, I don't care about celebrities myself. The truth of the matter is that celebrities aren't necessary so it wouldn't be a problem if they went away without being replaced. I think there will always be real celebrities anyway.

I'm okay with virtual idols, but I would never think of them as a replacement for the real thing.

Truthfully, I am so tired of American Idol. It has had enough seasons. So I think it would be awesome even if Virtual Idols would knock it down lol. I think the singers who made it so far are talented and all, but I think this takes away from the artist's way of making it without going through some "TV show", band creating/idol creating, whatever you call it.

This whole thing is nothing but a spin off issue relating to the porn industries, and the push to make Barbie more realistic in figure. To be honest with you I find the whole thing disturbing. People become desensitized, and lust for things by nature. If all the male population sees things that are our definition of perfect then we as a group are raising the bar, a bar that I think is near imposable for the opposite sex to reach, think about it, does the girls you look for in one way or the other resemble a girl, virtual or other that you saw on tv, in an anime or other? and how many girls do you know of that can measure up to this standard?
Then consider the result, if you find your self to be well for a lack of a better term wanting, because you significant other is not measuring up either by appearance, bed, demeanor, or personality what will you do? I will tell you what I would do, leave her. Honestly it is that simple, and I have done it.
When the standard you set is based off of someone's idea of perfect, the imperfect things around you become less attractive by default.

Vcelebs would fail, and I can sum up why in one word: Schadenfreude. People love these celebrities because they're pathetic, miserable people and love hearing about other people failing at life.

I'm pretty sure that, given adequate time and resources, I can find all three of those.

I never really got into that celebrity fad since i never really cared for what other people do other than the people im close to, sure they give us entertainment, and if they can act woopie,i still dont see why they have to be treated any differently than any other person, sure theyre pretty or handsome but if you look around at a public school/mall im sure you can find someone just as attractive to you. What is considered a celebrity anyways?

onto the subject at hand, virtual idols are just the latest way for companies to get money in my opinion, if they can, they'll try to sell you a model to dance around your desktop for 50$ and considering that most people own a computer nowadays and how many people are into the virtual realm than the real one they might as well succeed.

Let it go as it is, some people will like it, others will continue admiring celebrities, and some wouldnt care either way, the world would go round regardless

Virtual "idols" don't kill the real thing for me, because the real thing (celebrities) aren't even very real in the first place. If some guy were to dump me for not being exactly like some chic in a video game, I'd just be slapping myself for going out with such an idiot in the first place. O_o

But you are always aware on some level (I would hope) that the Virtual Idol isn't real. You always could build up some muscle and some money, hang around LA night clubs and seduce some starlet with your goods looks, but Laura will always be out of your grasp.

To use an analogy, it's the difference between hearing about a really cool Japanese game that will never be localized, and reading someone's fanfiction about a idea for a game that they are never going to get made. You could always mod your console, learn Moonspeak, import it, etcetera... but you are never going to be able to play that guy's idea.

You can fap all you want to either one but fewer people would fap to the obviously fictitious, anime fans not withstanding.

Yes, but that's not a huge deal if you prefer the VI.
If you have the choice between a movie you really like and a movie that is so/so but comes with a lottery ticket with 1:99999999999999999 chance of winning, you'll most likely go to the movie you like.


EDIT:
Also, you have to consider how true real idols are to the character they become when the cameras are rolling(unless you decide to make a stink while cameras are rolling, but even then they'll probably go OOC).
Most likely you'll be left with something that only looks somewhat similar.

So, if a person dresses up to look somewhat similar as a virtual idol, you end up with the same deal.
