One of the reasons I (and some of the mods) do not always post a closing reason, is because it bumps the thread. If I am going to close five threads, I don't necessarily want to move them all to the top of misc, bumping down the threads people are still talking in.
As for the "post and leave" problem, well yes, a lot of the threads in misc fall under that, and that is not good. We obviously can't just close them all (despite the temptation), so the ones that stand out as even less likely to evolve into a conversation, or where the thread is nothing more than a pointless poll (What sort of IM do you use, Do you like to eat ____, Have you been rejected, etc) where there won't be any discussion past "yes", "no", "I use ___" and so on are ones that get closed first.
Also if I open up Misc and see five threads posted by the same person within a few minutes of each other that are all pointless poll type threads, I will close or delete all of them in one shot. For example, within a span of six minutes a user (who just posted here while I was replying) posted the following threads:
*Once you die,...
*Whats your dream pet?
*What languages do you want to learn?
*What do you want your fish to say?
Thats not trying to have a discussion, thats trying to up your post count, and cluttering up the forum even more. Next time you do that, I will suspend you for a week, and limit your posting to once per day. Don't open up random topics, especially if you know thats what they are. If you have nothing useful to say or post about, don't post anything at all.
Pointing out other threads that haven't been closed at the time of your posting doesn't help much either, because some of them haven't been closed only because a mod hasn't seen them yet.
You can always PM a mod, or PM all three Misc mods at once to ask them about it.
Anyway I am in Japan right now, so my online time is a bit limited, and a bit erratic, but I'll keep an eye on this thread when I can.
