Hmm i think you misunderstood what i said or maybe i didnt say it correctly.
What im saying is that we fear death because we simply dont wanna die. Now, about my experience, i felt that i didnt wanna die, period. Not because i wanted to do other stuff or because life could be better, no i simply didnt want to die thats it. And i felt that it wasnt my time to die thats all. It was just a feeling, Im not saying that just because you feel that youre gonna live forever you will because thats impossible.

That feeling, that desire to keep on living is called the survival instinct. This entire thread pretty much comes down to whether you do or don't have it, and it takes a great deal of effort (or abuse) to overcome that instinct.

What I meant is that even in old age, some people keep that desire but obviously they can't keep on living just becase they want to. How can you judge when it's "your time"? When do you personally think "your time" will come?

Just because it's impossible, it doesn't mean people will give up on wanting it.

Seriously, I think we fear death because we don't know what will happen. They say that you only truly appreciate life in your dying hours. Fear of the unknown is human nature, and to say that you DON'T fear it is blasphemous. There is no one who doesn't.

I agree and disagree with that. Just because I don't embrace my own life, doesn't mean I don't embrace others. I give money to those in need, I help where ever possible. Which is my last little joy I get, putting a smile on someones face for doing a good deed. Just because I don't enjoy life, I don't push that on others to where they don't...

You just said the same thing my ex said to me except in a different wording. Maybe I just haven't found a reason to fear it yet. Maybe some of us need a little ******* incentive, that this dog eat dog world hasn't shown us yet. When I was with her I feared death once more. And not the "oh no Imma break the promise I made to you mom."

I think living is preferable to not existing. That doesn't mean that I -fear- death and it does mean I appreciate life. Perhaps I should look up the definition of fear, since a lot of people seem to think that if you don't fear it, you don't mind it in the slightest.

I'd say that those who can't embrace the absurdity of living can't embrace life. They are always looking for something better, or fearing something worse.

I don't fear death. To be blunt I fear little but I am curious about it. Example: have you ever had that dream where something like a cat or bullet of piano kills you and you can 'feel' the life drain away from you in your dream. I have always wondered if that is what death actually feels like and that makes me think.

How can you know what death feels like without diing?

Spooky eh? But seriously there is no reason to fear death, just accept it as a part of life (yeah I know contradiction). Once you stop fearing deat things will become clear. Example: Religion, (please don't argue with me I am a atheist through and through) religion is a way for people to safe guard their fears making them think there is something after death an "afterlife", granted there are other reasons to believe but the fact remains that this is a huge pull for many people.

But enough said death is a part of life, live with it and accept it and ... damn I had something really profound to say here but it slipped ...

We only get one shot at life (well, one that we can remember) and I think my fear lies in not being able to make the most of it before my time here is up.

Well, I don't exactly fear death for reasons like "I want to do certain things"... But, I would quite like to continue life, just to see how weird it could get.
It's an end to life, but I don't think it ends there. But I also don't think you get sent to heaven or hell. The idea of reincarnation is alien to me as well.

I suppose there is probably a second world which you get sent to, and from there life is a little more... organised. I'm not really sure. I don't believe things that have no proof. For all I know, there could be a heaven, or reincarnation could be true.

But what can I say about it? I have no proof, sure there are stories, but behind the stories they could all be lies. It could be something that we haven't thought of yet. Something completely weird. Or we could just disappear. But what have we to say about something that is totally alien to us, the living.

Why fear the inevitable? Honestly, it's going to happen more than likely, just get used to it. Plus death is like the Night Before Christmas. You don't know what you're going to get! Yes, I am afraid of death. Out of all honesty the thought of Death really does scare me. Their are still many places I want to see and things that I wish to do, so Death is not an option at the moment.

Also, I have no religon. I was born into a Catholic family but alas was never christened. So shut up. I don't wish to hear you make random assumptions about me again.
