Was curious, how far does everyone's favourite bands date back?

Your turn.
The earliest music I have is jazz, dating back to the late '50s. Charles Mingus's Pithecanthropus Erectus (1956), John Coltrane's Blue Train (1957), and numerous recordings by Thelonious Monk from 1952-1954. Miles Davis recorded many well-regarded albums in the late '50s (as well as the '60s and early '70s, another period of time with very enjoyable music).
Most of the bands I like date from the last 10-15 years or so, though. Radiohead, Beck, Elliott Smith, Spoon, and The White Stripes are my favorites, though I could name a dozen others - The Arcade Fire, Franz Ferdinand, Modest Mouse, Weezer... most recently, I listened to Wilco's Yankee Hotel Foxtrot a few times and really enjoyed it.
Between the '50s and the present, the only decade I have barely any music from is the '80s, I think. The only two bands I really like from that decade are Joy Division and Pixies (their 1979 and 1989 albums, respectively, which kind of "bookends" the decade). I've been looking to get into more music from that time period, though - Sonic Youth, Talking Heads, The Smiths, Wire, Echo & the Bunnymen...

Current all of my favorite band just came out or came out so reccently it is not worth type so current of about 99% of the music i listen to
I'm mostly a early 90's to 2000's alt/indie rock guy. My favorite bands are early Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Queens of the Stone Age, Nirvana, Radiohead for some of the Alt Rock. Pavement, Failure, Neutral Milk Hotel, Arcade Fire, Sunny Day Real Estate, and Modest Mouse are some of my favorite indie bands. I like some classic rock, mostly late 60's early 70's stuff like First 3 Zeppelins, Abbey Road and The White Album, stuff like that.
All The Ways You Wish Could Be? That's me
Of course I've listened to old stuff, but among my favorite bands, I guess The Yellow Monkey would have to be the oldest, dating to the late '80's. I don't even remember the exact year. May be '87 or '89 (I think it's '89).

In case any of you want to correct, question, comment on, or suggest anything to me regarding my translations or use of Japanese, please do. My sources of learning have all been listening to people and kinda forcing my brain to interpret, rather than actually translate like a dictionary. I understand I'll make many mistakes (I'd be surprised if I translate something mistake-free) but you have to understand that I'm doing my best.
...HmM..IDonT know The ExAcT, yr..But MayBe '90s?? i just dont know..maybe

The music in my actual collection goes as far back as the 1940s with the big bands. I have Kay Kyser and Glenn Miller in my collection. My musical tastes span the wide range of musical spectrum and from several periods. My classical collection is lacking though, as is my opera selections. I need to work on those next.

Are you Experienced?
My favorite music ranges from the 70's and 80's like Judas Priest and Ac/Dc to the present like Disturbed and 3 Days Grace.
Gee. Most of my music is from the 90s.
For contemporary music, mine dates from the 70's to the 80's.
I also listen to a whole bunch of romantic (the era) composers from the 1800's and late 1700's.
Late 90's and 2000's for 90% of my music.
LMAO! Same here. Damn! *whining* You said it before I could. I love Conciertos, Solos and Symphonies from old composers like Holst, Tchaikovsky, Strovinsky, Da Vinci (yes, he was also a composer), Beethoven, Mozart and quite a few others.
I <3 the REAL classics!
Oh but other than that I enjoy a lot of old rock. I don't much care for a lot of the newer stuff so most of my music can be a little old like Johnny Cash, Iron Maiden and Led Zeppelin type old. That means about late 30’s, early 40’s, but I'm also a fan of the Big Band, Jazz, and Swing sound, and that goes almost as far back as the 20's.
I feel old, all of the sudden, even though I'm only... *carefully observes watch and does some mental counting, staring at a calendar, for several minutes* ...16, almost 17.

Most of the songs that I enjoyed was back in the 90's, particularly the song Lemon Tree. It's still stuck in my head. But I also listen to Beethoven and Mozart (I like piano). Oh, I should mention Maxim too, he's superb even though he doesn't compose them.
Queen, Kiss, Lenard Skinard, Led Zepplin, Depeche Mode. Some of my favorite bands.
Besides those 70's/80's bands, most of my music is fairly new. Nickleback, Audioslave, Tsunami Bomb, AFI.
I'm like Masali and Ryth, in this aspect. A lot of my favorite bands got their start in the early 90's up to 2007, most being Indie, Alternative, Early Progressive, Acoustic, some Punk and Goth, Industrial...a few Pop-Rock acts...that kind of thing. Bands like Modest Mouse, Tool, Breaking Benjamin, Arcade Fire, Dinosaur Jr., Say Anything, The Shins, Spoon, Kings of Leon, Built to Spill, RHCP, Neutral MH, The Editors, Queens of the Stone Age, Against Me!, Arctic Monkeys, Chevelle, The Decemberists, Snow Patrol...the list goes on and on.
But I do have some pre-90's favorite bands, like Social Distortion, The Beatles, The Eagles, Queen...
So yeah. I'm not quite limited to one particular decade, as far as music goes.

I haven't even touched Guitar Hero 3. o_o I love Sonic Youth. I loved Sugar Kane, back in 93'; I love the newer stuff like the hit single "Incinerate" and "What A Waste". So, include me in your two-some. >.>
You're my Cherry Pie...lalalalala..~ >_> Yeaaaah.
Pretty much the 80s and 90s, and early 2000s. I wouldn't know exact years, I just know what times they came out.
