Need Anime Recomendations.

Ok, so my brother just started to get into Anime, he used to watch all the old dark Manga videos, loved them - always been a fan of the comics too.
He watched Naruto recently and has loved it (though, wasn't greatly impressed, some parts of the series he wished were different).

He wants to find other Anime series to watch.
He likes fight scenes, especially sword fights. Gore and well animated fighting, sweet effects. He likes characters with energy (like can play with energy balls and stuff), decent story line - not cheesy at all, but something you can really enjoy watching. Odd creatures maybe.
No like female magical characters or anything.

He would like some recommendations, if series you enjoy contain any of the above or you may think he'll enjoy watching it, please list them and places to watch them.

Bleach has some great action that sounds like what he's looking for. Samurai Champloo has some incredible sword fights.

yeah,i gotta agree to Doom85 that Bleach is one of the best...
i got a few more to suggest:
Basilisk-definitely great fighting scenes and storyline.but it's kinda like 'too violent'
Samurai 7-it's ok...
rorouni Kenshiin aka Samurai X-a high rated one...
Ueki no Housoku(The Law of Ueki)-not sword fighting,but about some magical power...pure shonen and great storyline...worth a try...
Samurai Deeper Kyo-i like the manga...good fighting scene but not really impressive...i dunno about the anime-never seen it before..
Kekkaishi-i just wanna reccomend this anime...it's shonen,funny and has a unique power...worth a try...
Eyeshield 21-a sports anime about american football...it's a great shonen anime...worth a try too...
Hunter x Hunter-not really sword fighting...but it's a kind of battle to among 'hunters' with special powers.....
MAR/Marchen Awakens Romance-not sword fighting...but it's about a war game in an alternate world...they battle with ARMS...

i think those are some great shonen animes(in my opinion,they are great) that i have ever watched the anime(or read the manga)

You can't go wrong with Dragonball! LOTS o' messin' with energy there...

Gore and story line, Elfen Lied.. but there is ALOT of nudity, like in every episode..

Hajime no Ippo is a great one. A boxing anime.
Samurai Deeper Kyo is as well. A sword-fighting anime.
Kiba is good too. Lots of mystical fights.
Wolf's Rain, while not big on fights, has an amazing story line.
Samurai 7 is pretty good. Based off the movie Seven Samurai.

Well - and I am going purly by guess here - your brother does not sound that old - I might be wrong, but its the impression I get from the post - so be warned that Elfin Lied is a very good anime, but is also very very gory and does have nudity and adult themes throughout.

Other recomendations:
Wolf's Rain; good fights when they appear, great story and character development, as well as good animation quality and also decent dubbing as well

Ghost in the Shell - A truly great anime both in the quality of production and in the depth of the storyline. Start off with the movies (you can get them in a double DVD pack these days) before the TV series and the other mini movie - solid state society, which does require that you have seen the TV series to understand fully.

I would also recommend that he check out some of the works by Studio Ghibli - very decent stories allround there, though action is varying, but for a start:
Princess Mononoke - has everything you ask for - and is an epic film
Naussica - again another great film, little more on story and little less in violence

Cowboy Bebop - wonderful story here as well and the great character development you need to tell a good story. Actions scenes are also present in abundance along with dogfights in space

Witch Hunter Robin - well it does have a female character with powers - but its a dark, semi-gothic setting with a good, if slow storyline and a joy to watch as well.

Le Chevalier D'Eon is a great series. It takes place in Paris in the year 1742, and the main character, D'Eon Beaumont, has to investigate the case of the murder of his sister Lia, whose body turned out in a casket floating down the river Seine, plus a few other disappearances of women. They have a few great fight scenes and the mistery is quite interesting.

Another one is Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, it's a bit gory but it has mistery as well. The second season, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai, doesn't have that much blood, but I think it might attract him for the purpose of reveling the answers and doubts the story produces.
