    Default Sicko

I just recently saw "Sicko", the documentary by Michael Moore. Normally I don't watch documentaries, but my dad got it, and I figured why not, I have nothing better to do. I thought his other documentary (Farenheit 9/11) was crap, but this one actually seemed agreeable to me. I was just curious to know what everyone else thought of it if you watched it.

I rented it last night at Blockbuster, but I've yet to watch it. I'm not a huge fan of Moore, but this documentary seems pretty interesting.

My uncle and aunt recommended it to me, and we tend to agree on things.

And if it sucks, I rented it for free, so there's no money lost.

The news did a report on it, and they concluded that In cuba, the health system (the only part that he showed) was only for the selected aka the rich and wealthy. The poor get shoved into stuffed hospitals with mediocre supplies and poor health care. They did not say anything aboot canada, but this is what Michael Moor does. He's an idiot.

    Basically:
Micheal Moore said that Canada, France, And the UK are better off healthcare wise becasue they have socailized medicine. The US can't handle the healthcare issues it has, and needs a differnt approach.
And Moore showed that in Cuba, healthcare isn't just for the rich and wealthy. They have a pretty good healthcare system. So International 4-8818 is wrong. People who were volunteers in the 9-11 attack were denied coverage for serious medical conditions they develeoped from the air, they were able to get the same medicine that cost hundreds of dollars in the US for a few cents in Cuba.

*sigh* Canada is Canada, Cuba is a "Communist Dictatorship" that would love to sway the hearts and minds of US citizens in its favor and away from our own country, and Michael Moore cares about America in the same way Hitler cared about the Russians.

Propoganda is his stock in trade. He is a seller of half-truths and spin, and anyone who takes his "work" at face value is an idiot.

I agree with Sanosuke23. Micheal Moore does not produce documentaries. He produces Argumentative Films. His shows are designed to steer you towards one side or another of controversy by only showing you glimpses of these and thats.

A documentary, on the other hand, only reports the facts. BIG EFFIN' DIFFERENCE!!!

I wish I could punch people who called his works "Documentaries."

I really don't believe socialized medicine is a good idea.
I believe that the fear of having huge medical bills after getting injured helps motivate people to not get injured in the first place. The same thing can be said about other medical problems that can occur due to not taking care of oneself enough.

I think what the government should do is try to cut down on whatever bureaucracy they might have that increases prices. I think that rather than giving doctors 'screw-up' insurance, they should require patients to sign 'I wont sue' contracts on anything risky.

I know the private sector can do much better with health care than the government.

I actually enjoyed the movie. My family has gone through some crazy times with insurance companies, so I knew most of what he was saying about the health system in the U.S. was true.

The systems in place in Canada, France, Britain may not be perfect (as suggested in the film), but they sure look a whole lot better than what's here in the U.S.

How much risk you are willing to take is determined by the consequences. Someone is more likely to do crazier trapeze stunts knowing that there is a safety-net below.

I was talking about living healthily.

Also, the fact that it health care is expensive will not change the fact that someone has to pay for it.

Being poor is usually not a good situation to be in. That is the way it will aways be. People are morally obligated to help people through charity, but they shouldn't be legally obligated to pay for everyone's bills through taxes. Besides, there is S-Chip and Medicaid, also hospitals must help injured people. They can't deny someone who's in real trouble.

I find Michael Moore's "documentaries" amusing, but I also find find old Soviet "documentaries" entertaining.
The man is masterful at manipulating people with film, but he displays an unashamed disregard for fact (also amusing).

Under absolutely no circumstances should the government take over healthcare; as soon as the CDC said that Agent Orange never could have caused any ill effects, this should have become readily apparent.
A much better way to get healthcare to the poor would be for the government to offer tax incentives to insurance companies that give health insurance to them.
