Is this messed up or what?

Ok... i am a little mad at everyone in my school at the moment. You see, there's this kid called Corrina, she has some problem with her jaw so that it hangs open and she is a little slow with speech. No one will talk to her! No one will even TRY to talk to her! She is super nice though, one of the nicest people i've ever met. Still, i think i am seriously her only friend. I'm not sure if she notices but its not right the way people treat her like she's a disease and avoid her. I am trying to tell them that there's nothing wrong with her other than her jaw and that she's and AWSOME friend but no success. Any suggestions? I know it seems like an immature problem you'd find on a kintergarden show but still...

To put it simply, I wouldn't bother.. these classmates to put it quite frankly do not deserve the chance to be her friend. I see from your post you judge her quite highly which leads me to believe she is a nice, kind and helpful person.. a friend people should want to have, but you can't change peoples minds I'm afraid. well, it does sound like she is a nice girl, and that it would be really nice to be friends with her. However, what the others do at school is exacly what society has taught us to do. A guy in a wheel chair *everyone look down it's rude to stare* A woman walking funny because of a back problem *look away* You know Im really not sure exacly why people do this but the majority of people do. Humankind fears things they do not understand. I honestly don't think that they don't talk to her just to be mean, but you can't change people's behaviors overnight. 'Im getting so angry when I read this kind of things. I had the similar problem aswell. Some years ago when I went to another school we got a new classmate (not a very pretty one but I never judge ppls inside after the outside) but sadly some did. She poorly had the chance to say her name until I heard some girls behind me whisper to eachother "we wont be with her, (she is ugly)". Its so mezzed up wrong!

I too indead thought that I was her only friend until she moved away with her family to another town. I NEVER judgy ppl after a persons looks.
Its so wrong, and I told the others my opinion about the matter.
But they didnt hang out with her anyway, so I was with her the times I wasnt with the others. She was never around when I was with the other girls/boys in the class and I can understand that.

Some people can be so horrible to others, even for some strange reason.

Talk first and see if u like that person, if you do - keep talking. If you notice after a while (not 3 sec, after some times so you get the chance to find out who this fellow is) then hey- you have tried. That means you dont have to be with them allways but I dont like ppl who freeze out others like that, special if they never have talked to the person, just by looking at him/her.

One of my best friends today I would never meet if I had judged like some do. Talk, smile, try to get to know ém, then you can judgy if u want and desire...

actually people can judge even if they have never talked to them at all, yada yada free will, all that. It dosnt make it right but what are your gonna do? peoples opinions change After they have taken the time to get to know the person.

Atrumrox, first of all I'd like to say that I'm proud of you for being her friend. Walking in when everyone else walks out certainly isn't an easy thing to do.

Second, I don't think you should worry too much. Just continue to be there for her. Think of it as their own loss for not accepting someone as good as her. You want true friends, not forced ones.

Society has a issue with "Different" any obvious signs of it you'll most likely be avoided unless one of the more polite people who have a oepn mind come in and say hi. Well Atrumrox (sp? too lazy to look), your post was very chatty and sounded more like it should be in yo' blog, but I'll give you an answer.

Having lots of friends is overrated. I would rather have 1 true friend than 10 casual acquaintances (ie people who think I'm nice and talk with me between classes).

You know, there are things called Blogs where you can post all of your feelings and have other people comment there. I don't really think it's absolutely necessary to post it in the Miscellaneous Board. I can understand your anger though.

What I have to say about it is that just don't worry about it. As sad and frustrating it is, that's the way most people are going to be. It's not like our words and us complaining will change anything at all. So just continue being her friend. At least you know you aren't like that right?

The sad fact is that most people are incredibly shallow. Also, people fear what they don't understand, and they hate what they fear. This is not always done on a conscious level, but that's the way things go.

Personally, I never judge anybody over stupid things like that. I judge people more by their actions... and thus have come to the conclusion that most people are stupid. Like the people at your school. Someday maybe you'll learn that stupid people are not worth your time, and you'll enjoy your friends more for being something other than complete idiots.

My point is that they didnt talk to her at all to HAVE another reason not to talk to her. No one knows her at all! And as to the ignore the other people thing i would. If it were me i could care less. I guess i just worry that other people arent strong like that... I am worried alot that someone will hurt her because i do care how she's feeling. And if i put this post into a blog then not NEARLY as many people would read and comment... Almost no one looks at blogs it seems like... Anyway, i've met a lot of people in my life that acts very similar to those rude people around you. They tend to avoid the people who has physical problems like having trouble walking, speaking, unequal five-senses and such...It's normal that you find these people giving prejudice to people like that Corrina. If you really care about that girl's reputation, you would be initiative and would do your best to tell those people off to stop doing stupid actions, otherwise there's really nothing you can do about it but to be her close friend.

If i were you, even if Corrina isn't my friend, i would still stand up for her because i seriously hate those kind of people to give prejudice to others especially for those who really need support.

I hate to point this out, but by pressing the issue you not only further alienate her by annoying who you're trying to convince, but you run the risk of making her feel bad about herself because some altruistic "normal" kid is deeming her a charity case. Road, Hell, good intentions, paved, etc.

Just be her friend, who cares about other people?
