Your art's cute, I'll say that. Quite endearing to look at, if you enjoy or at least don't mind the anime style of art.

However, it's... really boring. I mean that literally. I've seen your EXACT style of anime art like thirty times already, by different people. I'm looking through your deviantART gallery right now and I don't see anything special. It's almost like you're following the formula for this style, whether it be with single person-drawings or group-drawings: all the same poses, same (non-existent) dynamics, same faces, same everything.

However cute your drawings may be, there is nothing to them that will ever make me remember anything you've done because I've seen it all before so many times. The most successful artists in the world were successful not just because of their skill in a medium, but because their styles were so unique and new. Although I doubt you will be, if you intend get serious with artwork I would suggest trying something different, because what you're doing right now is suicide in the business world (especially since all you're doing is anime, which, outside of maybe Japan, is looked down upon by serious artists). Take an art class and learn to do something new (life drawing is GREAT for breaking the barriers you set for yourself, art-wise).

Try to deviate from your safety. Draw some realism. Add a background that isn't compose of more faces. Use a medium you've never thought to use before. You WILL improve as an artist if you do this, even if all it does is make you doubt yourself because when you start it's so hard to do - which is actually a good thing, because if it's so easy then you're not learning anything.


If you feel like going "tl;dr" then here's the short version: Your art is boring. Challenge yourself. Try something new!

im just gonna comment on the Love-Com art.

Well, First time looking at it, it was awesome! But looking closely, theres some funky parts. The girl was excellently drawn, but the hair lacks... realism. Add some more hair strokes to her. the coloring of the hair (and shading) was good! except the left part of the hair thats going down. The shading near the top is... a bit fat >.>;; now the clothes. Theres no shading. thats it >8D

... okay, before I go on, allow me to say that you should NEVER defend someone against CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM, unless you actually DON'T want that person to improve as an artist. All you're encouraging is that person having a way-too-big ego, being incapable of receiving criticism and not having any grounds in reality when it comes the art world. It's great that you like "kawaii" art like hers, but you, her, and her fans aren't the only ones who'll be looking at this stuff. Believe me, if you ever go to a serious art forum (and considering what you typed as a response, I honestly hope you don't, for your sake), you'll see that I'm being NICE.

Anyway, onwards:
First of all, I don't think you understood why I was saying. I did not say everything SHE drew was the same thing thirty times (although you'd be right in that she pretty much did, and there's something to be said when all an artist can draw is the same thing over and over). I'm saying the style she chose to emulate is the same one 30 different people I've seen, only a few of which managed to successfully make it look somewhat unique and interesting, and she's not nearly as good as some of those.

Second, about manga being a good place to start with drawing, no no no no NO NO NO NO NO. IGNORING THE FACT THAT IT'S BEEN DONE A MILLION TIMES AND IS VERY, VERY UNORIGINAL AND FLAT MOST OF THE TIME, anime and manga is actually a TERRIBLE place to start drawing because most of the time anime and manga distort the human body and face so much that we can only recognize those shapes as human because human brains are so advanced that they can figure out one creature from another. It's a problem almost any person who started with anime develops: they "learn" to permanently draw errors in their art, and this makes it more difficult for them to improve later on. I faced this SAME problem because I wanted to draw anime so much when I was younger, and only now am I really moving out of that style.

edit* Just to be clear I am NOT dissing anime art as a whole. That particular stylization can be quite beautiful, if done correctly. However, just like any style of art that takes the human form and exaggerates/caricaturizes something the way it does shouldn't be done from the get-go; good caricatures are only good because the artists who make them know HOW to exaggerate certain aspects without making it look like crap. If you start with anime without studying the real form it's based on, well, you're working backwards.

Stop, stop you all getting me wrong. Not that I don`t like critising. I was just talking how I`m mad that is so hard to have an orginal style. Besides, I think you all critising too seldom. XDDD ahahaha~ thank you for the advice~ at first I thought it was harsh but most importantly, I understand it. yep I know the way I draw is similar to other people. Before I got used at drawing that style, I was really into realism until my sister (Gintara) brought home Shonen Jumps. I know what you're saying, and I actually started realism again at the beginning of the year because I noticed that the frequent drawing of anime was what everyone wanted to learn (esp on dA) and I found it really annoying so I tried drawing people from my mom's magazines. I just don't post them really... I made another dA account for attempting to post them but then I kind of forgot the password...-.-'' And I'm already art classes and doing well actually and I try not to draw cartoony stuff O__o" because I got in trouble once last year with an art sub. teacher and it scared the heck out of me, really. I liked my big drawing of Maya Angelou I did, and my 6B and 4B pencils got short though -__-" And I have been practicing different styles lately also and trying to refrain or keep away from the usual style and trying to fix proportional issues (I learned drawing thru free hand drawing, which is a kind of a bad thing O__o because I didn't understand the guide lines thing earlier, but I do kind of now...)

^_^ So I'll try to more realism. *goes and begins* And thank you thank you sooo much. You don't know (or maybe you do) how much people tell me my art is cute and whatnot when I know it's soooo messed up, and then I tell them and they get angry about it, and so on... so thank you again for the constructive criticism!
