    Default Depression

    OMG. No one cares but I is bahck.
    With a new question that I ask out of my own imbalance of happiness hormones.

    Anyway. I just wanna know... Why does it happen? I mean, not when something terrible happens, but when you feel there's nothing wrong? An empty sadness you feel during the day, which worsens since you can't find the cause of it.

    I know why I have depression issues. It's not because I'm emo. It's because of many many other things. But what do you guys think?

    Extreme boredom can make someone feel a somewhat 'false' sense of depression.Also,I believe be worried about something or someone can cause depression.Other times it's just people who think they're lives are so terrible and complain about it when they don't realize how many people are much worse off than they are.Again,this is only my opinion.

    Hmm depression is one of those shades of grey things, brought on by multiple factors on a conscious and subconscious level and thus influencing hormonal levels. At least that's what it is for people who don't have depression due to a genetic predisposition.

    Well, I hope it doesn't sound like I am complaining but it is sorta in this area. I get looked at when I am in a crowd for instance like I am a total demon, people look at me in disgust. That is why I have somewhat of an emptness, Like I am not fully accepted among everyone. Even though I am different and have that emptiness and wonder why I am among this earth, it is slowy being lifted by the happiness and me being accepted by my dearest friends. Yeah, I mean It is still there but slowy going away and yet the demon I feel that is in me is growing but I manage to keep it locked away. Yeah...>.<; Don't hurt me. That is me, I unno if any of you guys happen to feel that way as well or no.

    I had depression fo ra long time I probably still do. It was suggested I take paxxil or some other anti-depressant but...wanted to handle it myself kinda. I took AP psych in HS and studied hard mostly on the freudian sections of psychoanalytic therapy trying to understand the human mind why it does certain things etc. Even now i'm still taking higher levels of psych and it does help to think things like it's only the weather not really depression. It is a disease but an even bigger and more harmful disease is the one where you think something is wrong with you yet there isn't kinda like munchausen

    A few people I know have said that they sometimes feel depressed if they don't eat right. Getting regular exercise might help, too, for the same reason.

    Depression can also be caused by being unhappy with your situation in life - maybe you don't feel like you have enough freedom, or you get a constant feeling of boredom or monotony regarding your day-to-day routine, or you feel like your life is stuck in place. Sometimes feelings like that are also coupled with feelings of anxiety or fear about whether or not you can be responsible enough and stable enough to deal with the changes in your life that you want to make, which can make things even worse.

    I've even heard of existential depression, which I don't fully understand - it sounds like depression with no apparent cause, as though one is at odds with life itself. But this seems like the kind of thing that someone might easily misdiagnose themselves with.

    Existential depression is when you feel your life has no purpose or meaning, or on a broader scale when you feel life in general has no meaning.

    I've had clinical depression since I was around 12 (I am 24 now). I've been on pretty much every single antidepressant and mood stablelizer on the market (you name it, I've probably been on it), and they haven't helped. I've suggested ECT (Electro-Convulsive Therapy, a.k.a. shock therapy) to my psychiatrist, but she brushes me off whenever I bring that up, even though ECT is supposed to be for people whom medication has not helped. ^<__<^;; Sometimes I wonder if she even knows what she's doing (for example, with my new antidepressant I am not supposed to take stimulants or I could die... and then she put me on Provigil to keep me awake, which I later found out is a stimulant...).

    This isn't a "pity me" post, this is more of a "sometimes there is no easy cure for depression" post. There is no magic bullet. Sometimes meds work for some people, and that is really awesome for them, but sometimes nothing helps at all. You just have to learn to live with it, I guess.

    I'm currently a psych major (yeah, I've said I'm pre-med, but that's a "path" at my school, not really a major) and I hope to go to med school to specialize in psychiatry with a psychotherapy background. I figure even if I can't help myself I can at least help other people on the path to happiness. That is how I survive, living vicariously through the people I help.

    Depression is a worthless feeling. It simply comes from when something sad arrives within the comfounds of the brain, wether it be death, sadness from someone other than you, Anger etc. Tis a simple feeling to escape from, simply think about something joyful if at all possible, just forgot about what gave you such an emotion. Depression may also come from a lack of activity, if you do not do something for quite some time, you become bored. Out of boredom you cultivate sad thoughts, images, and memories which may also cause you to be in a state of "Depression."

    It could happen for numerous of reasons.

    -Genetic
    -Unstable mentality
    -How people view you
    -How you view yourself
    -What you're experiencing
    -What people have done to you

    And the list goes on and on and on. Trust me, it'll get better if you take the necessary steps. I, myself, am recovering from events that root from depression. Currently, my outlook on life is unbelievably positive.

    Find out when you are most sad, and then eliminate those activities from your life. If boredom depresses you, find something to do. If you can find something that you really have something to focus on and provides something to show afterwards (making/repairing things) you may find your depression goes away.

    You know that bulldozer drivers tend to report high levels of job satisfaction? Psychologists belive it's because they always have something to show for their work they have done. I say it's because they get paid to drive a bulldozer and destroy things for a living .

    I believe that some people can have...like a depression issue that you need medication for, but aside from that:

    I think it's all about your state of mind at the time. Sometimes I sit around and feel sorry for myself for whatever stupid reason, and that gets old after awhile. So you just have to shake it off, hit the town and punch out street lamps with a bat. It works. Do it.

    my best friend got out of the mental hospital this wednesday, because she thought she was depressed, and other issues.

    and when she came out she told me that she realized, after seeing people who really do have problems, that her life is not all that bad and it's really just teenage angst.

    i know there's people out there who are truly depressed, but a majority of the people who claim to be depressed really aren't.

    but sometimes when someone is determined that they have a problem, they'll LOOK for the symptoms of that. they'll convince themselves that they do have a problem, and evidently said symptoms will show up.


    sure, everyone has felt depression in their life, but that doesn't mean that we are all clinically depressed.

    aside from anything else i've said: to be honest, i hate that being depressed and whatnot has become a trend amongst teenagers and the like. i'm not saying everyone, but a lot of people claim to be when nothing is really wrong with them.
