Hypocritical Meanings?

I brought up an interesting point/question in chat today, and I wanted to post the question to those of you in the forum as well.

What exactly is hypocrisy, and what exactly makes someone a hypocrite?

In quick terms, criticizing someone negatively for doing something of your like and/or dislike and then doing it yourself.

As in, saying you hate people who talk behind other people's back and then doing it yourself.

When your words contradict your actions, and/or your actions contradict your words.

I don't understand what the big question is, a hypocrite is a person who acts in contradiction to his/her feelings or beliefs. I don't know what else there is to say about it.

Also, is a person that has no morals, values, or beliefs, are they ever hypocritical?

Here's what merriam-webster says:

1 : a person who puts on a false appearance of virtue or religion

2 : a person who acts in contradiction to his or her stated beliefs or feelings

What the...? O.o Well, I don't understand, Eris. My brain can't process that. As for hypocrisy, I have the same saying as others. A person who contradicts what he's saying.

A hypocrite is a guy who screams at you for cutting corners in mariokart and yet, at the first opportunity he gets, does the same thing and starts celebrating with "Oh my God dude, owned!"

Say you yell at someone for stealing, than you go out and steal. Thats being a hypocrite.

Hypocrasy is performed whenever someone bad mouths some else's actions out of their disapproval of such things, then does it themselves.If you would like an example, read the bible.
