Male v. Female Musicians/Singers

It seems to me that male musicians and singers can be as good looking or as hideous as the general population, but female artists are (seemingly) always good looking. Why is that? Rant if you want, but don't become viscious (please?).
Just soliciting opinions...

Well most likely to appeal to the audience of people who like music the female artists kinda HAVE to be good looking...okay well not necessarily if their music is hot, but if it isn't then that'll be the only way that someone will listen to it...
But it doesn't seem to matter if the male singers are good looking as long if their music is fresh.
It seems weird to me though, but i don't care what a female or male singer looks like as long as their tracks or on key, the don't have a horrible voice, and their songs are vicious.
Simple as that.

I think that it is because of the market. We like to look at nice things (whether we admit to it or not.). No matter where you are from in the world (Well perhaps with the exception of some of the Arabic countries... where tradition kind of overides the marketing.) good looks sell records just as much as talent. And if you are a guy who knows what the heck you are doing with your particular instrument (Drums, Bass, whatever) you are golden. Seriously, I have seen soooo many girls just fall over themselves by four small words (I'm in a band). Personally, I don't care what the artist looks like as long as I can feel something from their music. For instance, I don't think that Lacey Mosely (Flyleaf) is all that attractive, but she has an interesting voice and her band's music says something to me. Same deal with Dave Matthews... (don't hate...you know you listen to them too ADMIT IT!!!).

I think it depends alot on what genre of music these people are going into, although it is sort of an unspoken rule that women have to be attractive and a guy can look however he wants in the media especially. If you're in any sort of Rock or Metal area, you're going to be portrayed more as being tough and not looked at so much for how hot you are. It's more believable to see a crazed maniac man up on stage for a Rock show than it is to see a pretty boy model trying to do the same thing. Also, you don't see as many women in those areas as much as men.

Now, if you're going into mainstream Pop music and things like that, image seems to be more important than the music most of the time. So, the more mindblowingly hot you are, the more attention you're going to get, and at that point it doesn't even matter much what the music is like. There are alot more women Pop artists than there are male ones, and those guys need to basically look like women anyways to get anywhere.

So when you compare someone like Devin Townsend to say any one of the Pussycat Dolls, keep in mind that both artists make very different music and they appeal to different markets. Hence why you don't see Devin Townsend in a miniskirt and high heels and Nicole Scherzinger with a skullet.

I think Tsuna put it all very nicely.
I don't think anyone would care about pop sensations like The Pussycat Dolls if they looked like... for example, the vocalist in The Gossip.

But it's basically who the musicians are trying to reach and how they're trying to reach them.
I, who listen to a lot of metal, couldn't care less how the bandmembers looked as long as the music is good.
As Tsuna, I bring up Devin Townsend as an example.
I love all his work, but the man looks like hell (and I'm sure I would still love his stuff even if he started wearing miniskirts) xD

I think women are more dependent on good looks than talent when it comes to music... and quite a few other things.

To be honest, I like male singers more. When women sing, many times it seems like they are -youknowwhat-ing at you.

User Name; I would prefer to say that a female singer can go further professionally than a male singer of equal talent, due to the looks of said female singer. That is not to say that this is true of all female singers, but I would say in the pop music line this theory would hold true. However move to the more classical music line and there is a whole host of female singers with wonderful voices, who are not "-youknowwhat-ing at you". Infact the theory reverses itself, you would not see many women who sing opera doing well in the pop charts.

I would prefer male singers because i know alot of male singers and i like thoughs bands and there songs. I don't come across to many female bands
