Manga Suggestions anyone?

I just recently entered a book store called Borders this weekend and I was stunned by the amount of manga they had for sale. So, can anyone suggest any good mangas to read other than the really well known ones? I'm gonna take advantage of this bookstore.lol.

Try and see if you can get any Hunter x Hunter. I personally recommend Monster and Genshiken.

You might try xxxHOLiC. It's pretty funny. 666 Satan, Spiral: Suiri no Kizuna, and Air Gear are supposed to be good, too.

Hm... So no well known ones... I don't know what genres do you like but... I like Paradise Kiss,Addicted to Curry,Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge (I haven't read the manga but I love the anime! XD),Honey and Clover,Ragnarök (it's manhwa but still...) and Berserk even thought it's kinda well known "classic" many don't read it... No idea will you find those from the shop... Or are these good.... XD

lol you just discovered borders? If you plan on buying from there frequently, ask for their borders reward card (its free) you get coupons in your email that you can print off, and saving two bucks per volume adds up.

The manga isles are full of utter crap btw, so try not to get sucked in. Before buying something I always try to get a preview of it somewhere, or a reliable review. (Though I prefer just getting to read some of it myself first)

What do you typically like, or look for in a manga btw? (Just want to know before I recomend something.)

Since you have a bleach av/sig I'm going to guess you like shonen fighting series. In that case check out these titles
Vagabond (some of the greatest art ever)
Claymore (If you like this you MUST read berserk)
Hellsing (don't pay full price if you don't have too)
D.Gray-man (cool art, not a bad read)
FIST OF THE NORTH STAR (if you can still find it anywhere)
Eyeshield 21 (Forget that it's football, it's an awesome series)
Berserk(it's not shonen but it's increadible, a must read)
Naruto(duh)
Battle angel Alita (haven't read much but it seems really good)
GTO(one of the only truly funny titles out there)
death note (forget the haters, death note rocks.)

Hey cut me some slack, I just arrived in this country.haha.XD You have to print those? I had no idea they were of any use. I just thought they were advertisements.lol. Yeah, I got the rewards card. I plan to squeeze as much value as I can get out of it.



Hmm...Well I usually look for a good story in them. Like if they were well thought out and not too stereotypical for their genre. And too much gore is a big no. I might be a guy but that doesn't mean I don't flinch when someone is graphically disemboweled in front of me.><


I am closely following the negima series so that particular area is closely covered.^^

I've been thinking of getting Vagabond since I saw that it was the same artist as slam dunk and I really liked that series. Death Note, I am already a converted fan.haha. The others I'll definitely check out when I go there.

Like a couple of people before me said, xxxHOLiC is pretty awesome, they sell it in borders for sure since i've seen it there [: but its popular so it sells out quickly, tsubasa is a good one, but most people say it picks up around the later chapters, but i still love it overall.

I've just started reading Anne Freaks (and Manga in general). It's pretty good so far.

I've also ordered Suzuka & Neon Genesis: Angelic Days off of Amazon. What do you guys think about those 2? I can't wait for them!

I found Sand Land (Akira Toriyama) relatively entertaining, even if it is detestably short.
Neko Majin (same) is pretty good too, if they have it.

Well, as for Borders, you can get Flame of Recca. It's pretty fun. It has action, adventure, comedy, tragedy, and is a well balanced story though it is primarily action driven. It was THE ninja manga before Naruto made ninjas cool.

I also reccomend Jojo's Bizarre Adventure though VIZ did not release the first two story arcs. But you'll appreciate it's innovation with the fights and the story approach if you really read it as a whole, and not just limited to one story arc.

I go to borders all the time.. As for manga, they dont mind if you spend all day there reading them so thats what I do..

DearS omfg DearS the manga is way better than the anime. Also i'd say the Kingdom Hearts manga and Neon Genesis isn't bad and definately Shakugan no Shana but I could really suggest tons but since there are already so many posts forget about it ~de arimasu

I've just started reading Anne Freaks (and Manga in general). It's pretty good so far.

Anne Freaks ? So you like Yua Kotegawa's works ?
For the time being, the only one of her I read is Shikeish&#251; 042 (known in France as D&#233;tenu 042), and it's an EXCELLENT read. If that one has been released in USA, I recommend it wholeheartedly.

(I plan to read Kotegawa's other works, beginning with Ottori S&#244;sa and Line, then Anne Freaks. Unfortunately -or fortunately since that'll help improve my Japanese skills-, all of those still aren't released in France, so I'll have to resort to import.)


Aside from Shikeish&#251; 042, other manga I recommend are :

- FullMetal Alchemist (probably, IMO, the best sh&#244;nen series out there)
- Chrno Crusade
- GetBackers
- Midori Days
- Plan&#232;tes (A MUST-READ !!)
- Samurai Deeper Kyo
- Rurouni Kenshin
- Azumanga Daioh
- Yotsuba & !
- 20th Century Boys
- Tsuchi no Ko (known in France as "Les Fils de la Terre" - Sons of the Soil -, dunno if it was released in US, if so, you should give it a try)
- Zipang (an absolute awesome WWII-based manga, if you're into both the Pacific war section of that historic period AND butterfly effect-stories, it's a must-read)
- And among lots of Tezuka works, Adolf ni Tsugu and Ayako are two of my personal favorites, which I eagerly recommend you.


There's also Hana Yori Dango, which I began reading very recently. For the first few tomes I read, I really appreciate it, so I think can give a try to this one too.

If you like historic manga, I would recommend Shinsengumi Imon PeaceMaker and Peace Maker Kurogane (sequel of Imon). Gives a little look into the Japan's late Edo / Meiji period although it's value lies mainly in the dynamic action, cool characters, nice drawing and humour

I personally love Ayashi no Ceres by Yuu Watase, the plot is far more developed than in the anime.

Paradise Kiss for a lovely romantic story, highly recommend. Slightly more detailed than the tv series too.

a few i recommend are posted above. Though i recommend Shaman King manga and Hunter x Hunter. The Shaman King manga is way better than the anime imho.

The Fullmetal Alchemist manga (different from the anime, so you can enjoy two stories!), Chrono Crusade, and Tsubasa are some of my favorites. I try to avoid manga of series that last for a long time (Inuyasha, Bleach, Naruto, etc.) and just stick with the anime since owning the DVDs takes less room than 30-50 manga volumes.
