Is everything big in the US of A? That is certainly the impression I get in Sweden. And I'm not speaking about the stereotype of big people with big hats, big cars and big guns in one hand and big Styrofoam hands on the other hand.
If you go to a café (in Sweden), and order an American cookie, you get a 10 cm / 4 inch radius cookie. A regular, Swedish cookie is maybe half that radius (thus one forth the size). I could seriously last on one of those things for a whole day.
Not to mention the "American muffins". I've seen smaller birthday cakes. ... that were supposed to last for 5 people.
For further comparison: The biggest burger you can buy over here is a quarter pounder, and the most soda you can get with it is a liter (~33 oz).
So, my question is: Is everything really that big in the US? Or is this just some idea some marketing guy came up with?
