So, when did the "Fan Buttons" animeforum trend start?

Hey, I'm just wondering...Suddenly, today I found my self making my own button to put into my signature knowing I was only doing this because I was conceited and following the trend... So, when did it start?

I was wondering the same thing myself.... I used to have my fanbutton in my sig, but advertising for my sig contest takes priority. But really, I think only the AF big wigs should have fanbuttons, and I must say I don't count myself as one of them. -_-

to tell the truth I can't remember properly who started this trend....but I think it was Either Taikyo or [Kaisen] or Thornwillow....either this 3 people.....cause I did remember them making it.....then they kinda upgraded it as the days go by....but I don't really care bout fan button though...>>"

It started between the sig makers and artists, they made fan buttons so people that liked their style/work could put it in their sig and spread the word around. Kind of a neat idea, I think.

Then people that didn't work with graphic arts started making themselves buttons for people that just liked them as members. So, it spread around.

Can't say I've joined in on it. I don't think I've done or said anything worthy of a fan button.

i have no clue. i left for a while and then i came back and saw all these minisig thingies. i was kinda wierded out by it all, but it seems to be pretty popular.

Well, you don't have a fan button. If you had a fan button, you would certainly have fans. At that point, I have a fan button, and no fans. xD

But, yeah, it is a rather strange trend. But I find that the buttons take up too much space in my signature to actually use them. I did use Opinionated's at one point, but I needed space in my signature.

Actually Ai, I've seen a few people with your fanbuttons. I think each noob should be required to have your fanbutton in their sig. They must have the fear of god in them. XDDD

Personally I think its gotten out of hand. People who have been members about a week are making buttons and pushing people to add them to sigs. Why? I don't know, apart from some kind of ego issue.

Lol, thorny wasn't here when it started, and I can vaguely remember it was Taikyo, 'cos Taikyo visited different forums and got ideas from there. I don't think it's kaisen or thornwillow, because I remember that Kaisen was more into sig and wallpaper-making at the time that Tai started the trend, and Thornwillow... yea, he wasn't here, as was stated earlier. xD Sorry Kaisen and Thorny. t.t

Anyways, yea..I started the trend..>_>; yet I didnt know people would actually just make a fan banner/button for themselves, not for their graphic skill, but just them. ;_; oh..that pains the heart!
It was originally for showing my thanks and how much I adore the graphic artists here in AF. Guess that backfires..>_>;;
So Sorry, you guys got annoyed at that. I thought no one would actually do that. Yet, I dont wear a fan banner/button anymore. =/
There was no real purpose anymore. People would just place it on for the people they like, not their skills as a graphic artist. ;_;

3. I've been to other forums and only people that work with graphics have fanbuttons (like Chaosgfx and stuff)
4. I agree that it's getting out of hand so we removed our own fanbuttons. As Tai said, it's pointless now cause people are misusing it.

Rina, I'm honored you thought of me as starting fan buttons, but I've only been around like ... 3 to 4 months. lol. But all in all, it took much space up in my sig and I can't advertise places that I visit, like Hayatochi, AFG or KS. And well, it just got really out of hand because I would get PMs of people saying that they were offended because I didn't them a fan button or they would be upset because they were my fan, but I wasn't theres.

And I thought about conserving space by doing the animated ones. That's why you see the animated fan banners floating around the forum because I made those. But ... as people wanted more and more banners, I couldn't just keep adding more and more tags to the animated fan thingy. So I quite doing them. I've even stopped carrying them in my sig. >.>

But now that I think about it, and the misuse, I get it. I first saw them in Tai's siggy and I thought, "Well ... that's really neat. I think I'll make me one and if people want to wear it, they can." So I did ... then it got a little out of hand. So I'm thinking ... that little trend is going way as fan buttons are disappearing from signatures slowly.
