Oh woman please hear the heart that beats
In your chest deep beside dreams and your idleness
the fire poker you have used wants to hear you defeat
all the things you have held when you had nothing less


Oh woman please, feel the pulse of your brain
As it sings for you to go out and dance in the rain
While the wives in the rooms are numb to the pain
Of the things you have seen in your mirror that gleams


Oh woman please, sing the songs that you had
Back when they all said your soul was a fad
That would pass in good time if you’d only let go
Prove to them that your spirit wasn’t for show


Oh woman please, find the rooms in the bed
Where your mother gave birth out in the shed
As you cried for the arms of the god that is gone
Sought the street that no woman ever has swam


Oh woman please, take the road that you need
While the shackles you love they will slowly bleed
And you will dance on the isle where you are now freed
Hope’s a shell for the unicorn which died in the reeds

While the spinster woman plays meaningful chords

All the dark little holes that no one has seen there before

To the pages of fate that are worn and off-white
And sing your ballads to the children of old
And let you rest in the Valhalla of gold


Oh woman please, shake your fist at the gods
Let them hear your voice let them suffer in vain
As they beg to be strong or as weak as can be
Let them see in you the power of pain


Oh woman please, taste the ambrosia of you
See the world covered up with your dew
That comes from your teeth and your tongue as you draw
All the things that you love on paper of moss


Oh woman please, save yourself from the sea
Which will drown you in everyday life and duty
Place yourself at the head of the silk caravan
As it pushes through the desert like a arrow through sand


Oh woman please, kiss the sun it won’t burn
Know yourself and that’s all you need learn
And the sandpaper issues will fade in the light
Of the bright pearly moon of a love frosted night


Oh woman please, you haven’t committed a crime
Only balanced yourself on the edge of a dime
You have all that you need buried deep in yourself
So I shall go and be alone by myself


Oh woman please don’t concern yourself with me
Ignore me and find the path to be free
I will watch from afar as you sleep in the sun
With your soul in the trees and in your pocket a gun



I feel that I must say I wrote this while reading Kate Chopin's the Awakening, a proto-feminist novel from the 1890s. So that might give you a hint about what I'm saying.

i really enjoyed reading this poem, it reminds me of a folk song for some off reason but thats what makes it interesting ^-^
