The Last Run
The soft padding of her feet.
She runs, from what no one knows.
She runs, for it is her life.
She carries in her, an ancient blood.
Passed down from her kind.
A blood that now leaves her alone.
She runs through the forest,
It is close on her heel.
Golden eyes search for the right way.
She speeds through the trees,
Black hair catches on branches.
She howls in pain as some pierces her shoulder.
She runs out of the trees,
Onto an open field,
Under the light of the moon.
Something is close behind.
It springs from the trees.
Lowering its weapon it shoots.
She collapses.
Eyes turned to the heavens.
She bleeds out her ancient blood.
She looks to the moon,
And lets out a last and long howl.
The run of the last Scottish Wolf ends.
