I'm having spyware issues.

This isn't really an anime forum problem, but I figured someone here might be able to help. I have ad aware and spybot search and destory, and I still have massive pop ups popping up when there is no windows open ><

Anyone know of anything else I can do?

This is what I do, and my computer is free of spyware.

- check the MSCONFIG startup lists to make sure no unknown programs are running at startup. If you don't know what is needed is what is not, go to yahoo and search for 'startup list', these lists show you almost all startup items, their process names and their discriptions, plus whether or not they are a valid process, a virus, or malware/spyware.

- check the process list for these items as well.

- use spybot search and destroy. It's the program I use for spyware. Free, not a trial, also with free updates. Always remember to update the free detections.

- clear cookies/ cache

- use hijack this. Search for it on yahoo and download. It's a small free program that detects spyware, and hijacked pages.

- it could also be a virus, so make sure you do a virus scan, and your virus program is updated.

well I use Spybot Search and destroy but I think that is only for like webs but pop ups SHOULD have been taken care by Spybot..O_o....anyway try downloading Registry Mechanic maybe that will help a bit...if not try using the method said by moon

yup!and If you download avast(antivirus) you will have a Script bocker
making your com even more secure.

Here is something that I have done in the past as well that helps with popups.

Going off of moonlightkisu, here's what I've done before --

Go to Start then go to Run to pop up the run program window. After that, type in msconfig, and it'll pop up another window with your registry files.

Shortly after that, click on the Services tab and scroll down until you can find something called Messenger and click it off. That has helped me in the past.

If that doesn't help, click on the Startup tab and scroll down until you msmsgs and click that off. I think MSN messenger sends you pops up while you're signed in, I'm not totally sure. I have Norton Internet Security, so it blocks everything. lol

Yeah. i recommend Avast. Very good antivirus program and im using it. I had some "Virus Found" pop-ups sometime ago. I decided to do "Thorough Scan" and it found about 3 viruses. After i deleted them, there arent "Virus Found" pop-ups anymore.

IE is still very much interconnected with the operating system, so when the excrement hits the fan, it can really hit the fan badly in IE, much more so than in FF.

Well if it hasn't already been mentioned try Microsoft Anti-spyware. Its pretty good I haven't had to reformat in a while...

Funniest thing is...I was thinking the EXACT same thing when I came across the post. The term I used was Internarcolepsy, since it sounded oh so cool
