Final Fantasy XII o.O

It's not supposed to come out in the states till October...But I have the game now. $80 later and it looks like it'll be cool as hell. Problem is: I need to find a mod-chip to play it! It's 100% Japanese and go and figure the American PS2 can't read the damn disc.

I'd wanted to get another game straight from Japan too, but I didn't know if it'd work on our PS2. Well, there was only one real way to find out if true Japanese PS2 games worked on the US Playstation, and that was getting one of them and testing it out. So I did. Now I know I need a mod-chip to play them and I have to find one. Anyone got any clues where I could go to get it modified after I get the chip?

'Sides that, I looked over the booklet and figured out bits and pieces of crucial info I'll need to play the game when I do get it working, (Which I swear will be before October.) And-yea...that's what I wanted to say. >>

It's a bummer you couldn't wait until October to buy FFXII. >_<; It probably would of saved you more money than it costs to buy the game, then get a mod-chip for it, not considering all the time you have to put into fixing it up.

But if you really need some sort of resource, I'm sure you could find some mod-chip for your PS2 on Ebay. I'd try there if I were you.

There are other solutions to playing imported games on your PS2 other than a mod chip. What I did was get a swap magic disc and card and it cost no more than twenty-five dollars if I remember correctly.

Hopefully you can play FFXII sometime soon though. I was iffy about it at first, but I've been reading more info on it and I'm rather interested. As they saying somewhat goes, can't rock it until you try it.

I could have waited till October, lol. But I've always wanted a straight out Japanese game. I had wanted the third Inuyasha PS2 game that way, but it was nearly impossible for me to get it, so when I saw FFXII completely in Japanese at AnimeNEXT-well-I grabbed it! Heh-heh. ^^

Anyway, once I get my PS2 all modifyed up with either a slide-card, mod-chip or flip-top, I'll be able to play any NTSC-J game as well as NTSC-U/C games, PAL and/or ripped games. So it'll work in my favor anyway. I hope.

Correct me If Im wrong, but ModChipping is ILLEGAL. And it makes sense, too. You're modifying a PS2 to play games that aren't supposed to be in america until later years. But I fully support it, since I Have Naruto: Gekitou Ninja Taisen 4 for the GCN (aka, Clash of the Ninja 4) so don't mind me, just be careful...

but I recommend Ebay, or dropping 300 dollars on a Japanese PS2

Oh, Nevermind then. I only say it because long ago (When I was about 6) I went to gamestop and asked the clerk "Where can I get a mod chip?" he responded with: "Kid, those are illegal"

I was looking for the english edition~ anyway, imported games usually don't fit with the Ps2 from the outside country and it often required mod chip to play... just telling what i heard, after all~

Nah, I've read everywhere that Modifying the PS2 isn't illegal at all. As for pirates, I have no intention of dealing with those, though I'm not sure I'll say no if I come across one that I like...>> Anyway, ^^ I have to work on it.

Well, for those of you that care, i found some interesting stuff on you tube, well my cousin did, but any ways.
It's the third fight against gilgamesh, yes gilgamesh is a boss, and you fight him 5 times.
Man it was awsome. He has a crap load of swords.
Here's a list of what they looked like to me:
Cloud's buster sword
Sephiroth's masamune
Tidus's brotherhood
squall's first gunblade
and a few more that were awsome looking, gilgamesh is goona be one fun boss.
Oh and the person in the vid i linked to has Vaan at level 70 and the rest of his characters in the teens and lower.
What the heck, a final fantasy where you can rely on one character alone?
Oh, and i absolutley love the battle system, it's jawsome.

modding your system isn't illegal. it voids the warranty, which means you're responsible if anything stupid happens to it. if you're going to import on a fat ps2, then I would suggest getting a flip top for it and getting a swap disc, as I don't trust slide cards. for earlier versions of the slim, though, all you need to do is glue down a couple of switches inside the system and get a swap disc, and you're set.

as for the legality of playing import games, it's legal as long as you actually buy the game. playing ripped/pirated games, though, is illegal, and I can't recommend doing that in the first place, as I wouldn't trust any warez in the first place.

Try using an Action Replay. Use the cheats if u want, it's up to u, but u can use AR disc with the swapping method. That's what I did with my Dragonball Final Bout import.

If you want to buy a game, you can have it fast, in good quallity or cheap. Pick two. In tis case, かごめ went for fast and good quallity.

Lol, being fans of Final Fantasy I'm still waiting for the english version. I ordered the japanese version but it was so goddman hard to play since everything was is japanese but the graphic are so cool

Think about it, if all the games were connected, it would get incredibley old and drie.
And if you knew anything in alot of ways ff10 and 7 are connected, there directors even said so. there's a connection for you.
And i wasn't trying to be a jerk, i was just stating something, a fact.

As for info i posted earlier, There are only 2 Gilgamesh fights, but they Both rock Hard Core.
Each character has techniques called Mist Quickenings, that's what there specials are called in the US version.
A kind of sucky arrangement, only one character can learn a summon. once a certain character learns one, that Specific summon becomes unavailable to all the rest.
You can have one of the 6 main characters as your leader / on screen character. You can choose to use that character to fight alone, but no others get EXP, and it's been proven that alot of optional bosses are basically impossible to defeat with only one character
And US version features a widescreen support option. haha all you JP version users.
Also features a flicker filter, filters out all blosky edges and makes them a type of blur, making it look alot better in my opinion.

How can you call FF series lame? Hav you forgotten that the series has thousands and perhaps millions of fans. Anyway, the battle system seems confusing to me. In the japanese version it was impossible to figure out which is which cept for attacking

That would have made it over here in months anyway. I just ordered kof XI because it ISN'T coming to america nor does it have any kanji aside from win quotes.

Well regarding FFXII it's nice to see square got their act together and copied the battle systems of better wester RPGs. But do they have to make all of the characrters so gay looking? Would it be to much to as to have actually cool looking characrters for once. I guess square thinks so, honestly I already ahve a back up of games to play. I doubt I'll play this, looks liek the recycled the same evil empire storyline from billions of other rpgs. I'm just not interested, especially since it comes out the same month as summon night 2 and super robot taisen 2.

Tch c'mon, have you seen gameplay of summon night 2.
The gameplay is repeatative, and it's basically a dynasty warriors rip off. also a lame series in my opinion, well at least until the ones where you could control units to do stuff.
ff 12 looks way better. and you can have your own opinion on the character's, but i think they're all cool, and I think they look good for there backgrounds, what little they have in it.

Well, considering I bought the FF 12 japanese version cost me only $10 bucks, I don't feel moronic and stuff (I'm not dumb when I buy stuff!!) but heck the game was fun and the graphics rocks
