Free Masons

I am a bit curious to see who here knows a thing or two about the Free Masons and the society.

I've read what I could about freemasonry on wikipedia and their grand lodge website, but they are very elusive. I know they are symbolic and I've found out a few things about the inner workings of the society but I am curious about a few things;

Anyone had experiences with them? (If so I know you can't say much but anything helps). Anyone know any Masons and their symbology? What about their 33 Degrees? And the nagging question to me: Does anyone have any speculation about Free Masons and the offshoots (Knights Templar, Rose Croix, Scottish/York Rite, Illuminati, etc) real attitudes towards the Church?

I've read so much but typically found out next to nothing except a few tidbits of information which even then gave me two different views.

Diesel, for some reason I am looking at you, but anyone with knowledge please reply. I want to find this out asap.

Well I know that my mom dated a free mason. He was abusive but that doesn't mean that they are all abusive. Other than that I do not kow much about them but this subject does peek my interest.

That is funny because Diesel would be the one I would look for to learn more about this topic mainly because he is as smart as hell.

All I know is what I have seen about them on the History Channel, and even they were fairly broad about it. There have been a lot of U.S. presidents that were free masons, as well as the founders of the country, senators, and other high-ups in the government.
I too am interested in what others will have to say about them.

Yeah turns out people like Mosart, Galileo, Franklin, Washington, Diefenbaker, Churchill, Ford, Horton (founder of Timmies!), Nelson (supreme court judge) and Da Vinci was apparently in one of the Mason appendage-societies.

These were some of the names I remember when I talked to that Mason earlier today. He approached me the other day saying I should think about joining them (after we were talking about the Da Vinci code and susequently after he asked what my own religious beliefs were and I told him) but I wanted to find out more before I just join this thing. I asked him if it was some sort of secret society and he said "no, but it's a society with secrets"

I think my friggen room mate is one too. He talked about them when I mentioned it and seemed to know an awful lot and offered to come with me to the Masonic temple on Thursday (I decided that I'll go check it out).

And Diesel is female?? What the hell is this freak out Sagat day or something

Just because everything has a bad side doesn't mean you shouldn't trust the Free Masons... Do you trust the police even though they are very incompetent... My car was stolen and set aflame it was even on a security camera at the place I worked at and I knew exactly who it was but the police didn't do crap...

If the freemasons, the illuminati the other ofshoots actually were all of the things people thought them to be, we wouldn't be discussing it here (because we wouldn't know). Don't get me wrong, I admire some of the things they supposedly do, but I fear their knack for adding their signature to every frecking thing they touch is their downfall.

If I was secretly ruling the world, I would create something like the freemasons to act as a distraction. It's like Area-51. What point is there in having a secret base that everyone knows about—except to serve as a bleeding effective decoy.

Well the Free Masons do operate in secrecy, which can be said is one of the biggest sources of their power. You don't really know what they do, so it's only a matter of time before myths and rumors flare up about things people want to attribute to them. So adding their signature is sort of a way of making people wonder. As you can see, the people who really believe they are behind everything are usually discredited as "conspiracy theorists" and "paranoid." That being said, they're very private, and I have no real information to prove or disprove either way.

The most extreme of the conspiracy theorists will say that the Free Masons and similar groups that may be related to them, are actually controlling various governments and government agencies. Other people would counter that the Free Masons aren't controlling anything, they just help people get to positions of power, simply by association. Much like the way networking works when it comes to finding a job -- It's not what you know, it's who you know. In this case, it's no conspiracy, nor illegal or illicit activity.

Aaah, Masons. For what i know they are NOT the Illuminati. The Illuminati came more earlyer and are suposed to be "The daddies of Masons".
Say, did any of you ever play Deus Ex? It's a really cool FPS/RPG game where you are involved with Illuminatis, Area51s and other conspirators. In fact, in the Paris mission, at the citadel, you will find a lot of books that will explain the link between Illuminati and the Templars. [for Sagat] I believe the Masons are called masons because, in the late 1600, when a curch/temple/library was built, the.. (constructing)masons chased away all the peseants from the building saying "This is a sacred building, and it's construction is not to witnesed by mortals etc. etc.", while they, actually built the secret passages and underground escape tunnels and stuff, in great secrecy.

Also, to tell you the truth, the first time i ever gazed upon Dieselmannen's avatar, i saw the Illuminati piramid.

Hmm, i've heard that when you are Initiated, they take you in this... room.. full of symbols and stuff, that somehow represent a part of the Mason's history and, if you're clever enough, transmit some messages. The first messages will tell you something like "If you are here by case or by curiosity then this is not the place for you!" the rest of the symbols will have to contribute to your initiation, i guess.
They say masons do not accept women in their society for some reason.

You give reasons but don't back them up. How will I lose my appreciation for human life (not like I haven't already but still). Your view point sounds based in religion, if it is then I'm not gonna listen to any bit of it. Why exactly would you "hunt" me down?

Loose apreciation for human life - The Illuminati consider themselves "Superior" as "LifeForms on Earth". True, they ARE smarter than most ppl, and had the opportunity to meet up with an Illuminatus to change their life into better, but, tell me, does that make you superior? You might be part of an organisation, or you've made a new invetion or a dissease, or caused wars and broke nations thanks to your mind(psycologically speaking, not paranormal...lol) and the minds of other members, but you are still a Human, and were born the same goddamn way as all the rest of them! How are you superior? You haven't got any motivation to believe the peon/sheep/humanoid in front of you is inferior. You see, this causes a lot of.. racism/sexism etc. The Illuminati were behind the KKK, you know.
But anyway, to know the value of a human life you must consider sentimantalism as well. And i'm sure the last thing you'd want to hear is "feeling". You are hard as iron, and i bet you want to become as hard as Titanium. So, if "Not-givin-a-dam"-ism is what you seek... then i guess masonery would fit you juuust fine.

Look, we already have Democratic leaders, wich expose their actions to the public, as they are the ones changing our daily lives. The Masons now want to be left alone so they can continue to influence them in secrecy. Why? Why the hell? Couldn't they show what they intend to do, like they do?

People are not equal. If I walk into a room with twenty people, I will statistically be smarter than 18.69 of them. That makes me superior to them (atleast mentally).

What is dangerous isn't recognizing superiority, it's generalizing superiority (eg. saying that foo is superior to bar because foo has a specific heritage or orientation).

And democracy is doomed to fail, because people are sheep minded, they mindlessly do as they're told, or even worse, do as everyone else does.
