Tributes after rail line death of teenager
AN investigation was under way this week into the death of a Harvington teenager who was struck by a train on Monday night.
Danny Watts, of Newlands Close, was killed instantly following the incident on the main London to Worcester line at Pool Occupational Farm crossing at Charlton at 10.30pm.
No-one on the train was injured, although the driver was treated for shock.
A spokesman for British Transport Police, who are handling the investigation, said the cause of the incident was still under investigation.
An inquest into Danny's death was opened yesterday and adjourned to a date to be fixed by the Worcestershire coroner, Victor Round.
This week, some of his former teachers spoke of the "gentle and modest" boy who grew up in the village.
Marcia Palmer, head of Harvington First School, said: "Danny joined us as a little one, as a toddler and came and stayed with us until he was 10 years old. He was a gentle, modest and a very caring little boy. He was always trying to make peace between people.
"I remember at the age of nine he did a piece of work on Dr Barnados, it was a very compassionate and caring piece of work that still sticks in my mind today. Compassionate and caring, that was Danny and it's a dreadful loss. He was the kind of boy any mother would be proud to have called her son. We're just so sad. He was a lively lad. He was a quiet boy who didn't like a fuss."
Bernard Roberts, head at Prince Henry's High School, said: "Danny left the school three years ago but he was known as a nice lad. He gained good GCSEs but did not stay on at our sixth form. We're very sorry for his family he was just a decent person."
The youngster was studying for his A-levels at Stratford College where principal Martin Penny
At the moment im feelin very upset and my heart is full of some much pain and i hope his not in anymore pain and at last i hope him can rest in peace
