CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - Vice President Dick Cheney accidentally shot a 78-year-old hunting companion during a weekend quail hunting trip after the man went to retrieve a bird and Cheney failed to spot him.

This story was on the news 50% of the day yesterday, and I am sick of it. He and some friends were on a hunting trip on a ranch, hunting quails. His 78 year old friend went stayed behind the group a bit, and when he came back, he came closer unannounced. At that same moment, Cheney saw a quail move on his side, turned, and shot. His friend was there, and got shot.

He was not using a real gun, it was a pellet shotgun, and he sprayed one side of the 78 year old man's body.

I have already drained all comedic value of it in chat and real life, so no funny comments here.

Of course I feel bad for the guy. It will be kind of hard to live that down, though. Although just think if George Bush was in Cheney's shoes. Bet that wouldn't make the guy feel any better.

I don't think that it is to big of a deal, but I did find it rather ironic. I mean, big old gun-wieldin, terrorist-huntin, dick-swingin Dick goes hunting, one of the most redneck sports in existence (second only to nascar, but only because hunting requires the most minute brain functions), and who'd a thunk it, he shoots a friend. Maybe someone will learn a lesson.

Ok, I've got no beef with you, but I just really had to say that I hate the way that Armstrong lady tried to make the situation seem better by saying Cheney "peppered" him. He didn't get "peppered" he got shot in the goddamn head. Say it like it is. It really did seem like she was doing it just so her hunting joint wouldn't lose buisiness. But that's not the real point, I guess.

My problem isn't really with Cheney(at least not this problem), my problem is with hunters. I don't think this qualifies me as a hippie, so stay away from me, conservitives.

well there are two different terms in the hunting or shooting world. As we all know a 12. gauge or shotgun uses a round filled with small lead bb's. In the hunting world if a man is shot, he has been peppered. In bullet world it's just being shot. The man that dick shot was outside of the hunting group. All hunting groups are formed in line. In this case, this is what they did. But this charelston hestons downfall. Every man has to ask for permission to leave the line, he didn't which means that know one knew that he left the line and was in line of fire. I still don't know why dick shot at the ground for the bird, but i guess he was pretty eager to get some game.
