Okay, this is something to really urk the noodles of Inuyasha Fans.

The name Inuyasha stems from a compound of the words ,Dog and Female Demon. Ironically, the name of the main character of the show is Inuyasha.

Am I correct?

So, why in all the reasoning of the world would they name the main Character of the show "Dog Female Demon."

Why not name it Demonic B-Word?

I remember I used to think that too, but a friend of mine who speaks Japanese at home told me that directly translating it sometimes loses the actual translation. Inuyasha may directly mean "female dog demon", but it actually means something different.

I already knew this, but it is still quite amusing when I think about it. I will say in response to Opinionated's last post, that Rumiko Takahashi can make a good story. She just ruins them, very quickly. for example, Ranma 1/2.

It really doesn't mean female. You can't use online dictionaries like that when they don't even use the Kanji to translate from.

I always wondered that too, read Rumiko Takahashi's interview. Inu and Yasha put together means, Dog Demon. Not Dog Female Demon. Complicating, I know.

And the only reason i can give to this is that trey're looking for names that sound cool (Inuyasha, sounds brave lol) and japanese as always. Another case would be Naruto, wich means "Sticky fish paste cake" or something, now that's stupid, but it sounds like a !Mean! name. lol
