technology filling in jobs...

its getting so compicated...

Soon, we might have a future of robots and other inventions. I love technology.

yes it is truly amazing. Think about it. 100 years ago the car was invented and you turned the engine on by hand crank. it is truly fasinating.

I like all the new cell phones and some of the games, but isn't it getting a little crazy? I mean in a 100 years what are we going to be doing? Robots will have are jobs, what would be left for us? Technology might be great but I figure it'll ruin us one day.

This last 10 years technology made a big progress, we've invented more things the last decade then last the century. I just remember when I was a kid, I had a Nindtendo. It was really great and the graphics rocked. Now I have a PSP with it's computer-like graphics and the ability to show video and listen to music.

Ah yes, there are so many inventions like a tv the shape and size of paper, the hover car(yes it has been invented), mind control that you can control people with a remote, genetic modification, the biodegradable polythene, a real 3d television and yes real 3d, and the most important and greatest thing ever...THE COMPUTER...
The computer has invented or gave the innovation to enhance and invent many things.

The thing is that, technology is evolving. And I am afraid that I might not be able to witness it all. I wont live to see the Japanese Sky cities or the transcontinental railway.

Well, as I work for a company that makes such technology (Samsung) I get to see/play with all this new stuff -- and get to attend meeting on how our technology has improved. Even if you take one part of advanced tech., say Television, we started with Black and White analog and now we have high definition digital TV with picture perfect clarity. It’s just boggles my mind sometimes.

There have been many fictional stories written about the boom in technology, and how one day it might ruin us. (i.e. Asimov's I, Robot which was also the basis for the movie of the same name, The Matrix, Battlestar Galactica, etc) They have some interesting points they bring up. Does the rise in technology frighten anyone else? It doesn't have to be because the machines may rise up against us.. It could even be that our dependence on the machines will cause some major cultural problems. The more machines we use to do our work for us, the less physical we get, and the less healthy we become, with each generation. It's a frightening thought, when you try to think about that..

That being said, I'm all for progress. I love solving problems to make our lives easier.

In my psychology class we had a discussion about technology...although it was completely off topic ^^ We were talking about how although the advance in technology has definetely been great to some extent, we are developing things too quickly and as a result we are unaware of the causes of the things we are developing. In class we talked about how we are developing things in technology that are possibly giving people cancer and making people sick in other ways. Well, cell phones, for example, have been getting a lot of attention about how they might be a possible cause for cancer developing in people at younger ages. Also, we were talking about how laptops are capable of emitting radiation, which over a long period of time, can be dangerous. Our professor was saying even though we have made great advancements in technology, we have developed things too quickly without thinking of the long term effects. Of course, we were simply discussing things with a hypothetical viewpoint...


So, yes, with the above viewpoint in mind, technology does frighten me because we are still unaware of what the consequences of us using it might be. I do believe, however, that technology has made great leaps which has resulted in some products that are quit beneficial, but I also agree with Member Name. Technology is progressing very quickly, and as a society, I think we need to take a closer look at what is being developed and what the possible consequences *either positive or negative* could be for the future.

agreed... like the story of the matrix.... they give technology AI, the ability think... in which.. they developed feelings, which does not mix well with them receiving emotionless orders to do hard labor... thus, they rebel, and fight for their freedom. eventually, mans creation exceeds there expectance of achievements... man begins to try and eliminate this... "competition" in which they unknowingly created... in the humans futile attempts to annihilate them... they return the favor, using there very body as power sources...

or in the movie AI... how humans give a robot.. the ability to love... thus, he becomes in an endless want to love his "mom"

Member Name: In Animatrix you can see why the robots are the way they are. If humans created robots with A.I. should it allow use to use them as slaves? Shouldn't they be treated like fellow human beings? They have their own thoughts and feelings.

Angel Eyes: Yeah, I think we should research more about the consequences of technology. We are still in an early age of technology.

I would say that technology helped us alot, but it is sad to see all the misuse of technology, like bioweapons and atomic bombs. And weapons in general

technology is great. Comunication with relatives overseas, Video gaming advances, wireless technology, micro and nano-technology. I can name a lot more but too much to name. but with technology is the elimination of obsolete things. That is the only bad thing i have seen. Elimination of jobs....so i cant say all of it is good
