You didn't ask a question...Can I ask one for you?

My question is: If you drill a tunnel through the earth - which will not fill up with molten lava for some reason, and drop an apple into it, what will happen?

It will go like a pong ball inside the earth.Originally Posted by Dieselmannen

A proton weighs about 2000 electrons. ;-)Originally Posted by Axeit
How fast do two objects move in relation to each other if they move away from you, from your perspective, 95% in the speed of light in opposite directions?
For those of you not versed in the theories of relativity I've got another question: If you fold a piece of paper 200 times, how thick will it get (you can use any thickness of the paper you find reasonable)?

Not entirely sure though.

where do black holes lead to?
Are you sure? That's only 15% the speed of light o_O...
According to Einstein's velocity addition formula, they will, if they move in c, preceive themselves as moving in exactly c relative to each other.
I updated my question to 95% of after you had responded, and then you would get 99.8% of c.

And about the paper thing:
You can't fold a piece of paper more than eight times. Atleast not if you fold it into halves.

Black holes are not tunnels, they lead nowhere. It's a stellar object like a sun or a planet, only incredibly dense, so dense that light can't escape from it.Originally Posted by Chaos Master Dark
The misleading name (probably) comes from their very deep gravity well.
Hey look, Japan made a movie about me!
Doesn't the name origin from the fact that not even light can escape it?Originally Posted by Dieselmannen

Then eventually whould not they become stars again?
You know building up mass eventually it wont destroy near everything
that comes w/in its gravitational field?
Actually, that's not entirely accurate. If the pressure inside the earth is so intense that it can solidify molten nickel, surely the apple would be crushed before it reached the center. That is, if it weren't vaporized before that.Originally Posted by Axeit
As to where black holes lead, they don't lead anywhere. A black hole is simply an ultramassive singularity that is so small it lacks the normal three dimensions of space. If a singularity has only one dimension, how can it have a size? If it does not have a size, how can it make a hole it the fabric of space/time? If it cannot make a hole, then how can it lead anywhere?
Here is my question:
What is the only thing known to man that has ever been seen exiting a black hole?
Yes, I know it's an easy question... I just thought I'd give the "others" a sporting chance.
Zero
I just thought that if it wouldn't fill up with molten lava, there wouldn't be any pressure. Ofcourse, that was what I thought at the time, you might be right anyway, Zero.Originally Posted by Dieselmannen

No, their intense gravity is so strong that everything within the event horizon is collapsed into a single point (a singularity). It will destroy everything that gets into it's gravitational field. That's what black holes do.Originally Posted by Chaos Master Dark
As for the apple, something hit me earlier, it will also smash into and bounce back and forth against the walls, since the velocity of the tunnel's rotation is v=2π r/T, and the apple's rotational velocity will remain that of the planet's crust.
Hawking radiation? Or wait, I think that's still only theoretical. What is the only thing known to man that has ever been seen exiting a black hole?

That basically means that the apple will be crushed in a matter of seconds.Originally Posted by Dieselmannen

Looking back, I realise I really made a mess of how I phrased that question. And yes, your answer is correct. Singularities do indeed spew out radiation as a biproduct of all that matter consumption.Originally Posted by Dieselmannen
Next question... this is just a rhetorical question to get you cogitating, it doesn't need an answer. Comments would be appreciated, however:
If time slows infinitely as you draw closer to the event horizon of a singularity, how can you ever enter it? Wouldn't this mean that a black hole is in fact not a black hole, but instead an ultramassive cloud surrounding a onedimensional point in space and time?
Zero
Just a weird thought, if the pressure really is that high down there it may be able to float on the air. (That's if it's 100% flame proof apples ;-)

You can't see black holes in the first place. They absorb light - they are black, hence the name.Originally Posted by Chaos Master Dark
