AWA --And other cons

So, I live in GA here in the US, near the general Atlanta area. Atlanta has an anime convention every year called Anime Weekend Atlanta (AWA). I was just wondering if anyone else was planning to attend this year.

But hey, if you aren't, you can still use this space to talk about cons you DO intend to go to this year, or ones you've already been to. It can be a general convention thread thing. Who knows, maybe you'll be able to hook up with other AF people at your cons!

Maan...there's a bunch of cons I would LOVE to attend [AWA looks fun, too, plus there's Tod =o], but sadly, I lack money [and age] to travel to San Diego or any other place more than an hour away.

So far, I've only been to Sakura-Con and Emerald City ComiCon. Both were fantastic!

Sakura-Con is supposed to be the largest anime convention in the Northwest. It's HUGE, too, even though it's only been around for six years or so. It's also a great way for me to see some of my online friends from Canada [they travel down from BC to spend the weekend - I got to meet them last year =D]. I always bring cash with me, not for convention swag, but to commission artists at the AA [Artists Alley], but I DID buy my friend an Integral figurine.

The other, Emerald City ComiCon, is a fairly small comic book convention. I went with the same friend as to SakCon, because she wanted to meet Jhonen Vasquez. I got to meet a very nice and talented artist named Tiana Tampico who did a great job of drawing my original character Aranel for me, and was fun to talk to as well =D
I'm really excited about going this year, though. Brom is going to be there! BROM!! [I admit I was not too familiar with him up until I checked out his website after seeing him on the guest list, but HOLY-FREEKEEN-CRAP is he ever amazing]

Cascadia Con looks fun, too...except I just recently found out about it, and my friend says that tickets could cost up to $125 each. So...not this year.

I know there's a lot of people here living in the Washington and Oregon areas, so how many of you will be attending these?

That Sakura-con looks interesting... But, like you, I lack fundage to travel across the country like that. o_o Like, I would LOVE to go to Yaoi Con, but there is no way I'd be able to afford it... Bills and food are more important...yes...

Since the creators of Penny Arcade live in Seattle, I got to meet them a few times, too =D good stuff.

Never been to an anime convention... o.O;; but I heard about Sakura-Con... It would only be a 30 min(or less) drive to that area... But I think its over already... <_< And it was on a Sunday too I believe... Oh well... Theres always next year... ^^;;

Sakura-Con...? It's an all-weekend event in MARCH. It opens on Thursday night, I THINK, but there is very little to do.

For the most part, I agree. I'd be there for the yaoi goods more than to socialize with the fangirls. I mean I'm creeped out by a vast majority of what they talk about at AWA's yaoi room night thing... For some reason a lot of them like shota and incest...and I do NOT. *shudders* But a chance to meet some of my favorite june artists would be great. Like they had Nitta Youka there one year. She's so amazing... ~<3

Went where a couple of years ago? To AWA? I might have seen him. I recall seeing a very Vash-like Vash a few years ago. Might have been him. Got any pictures?

I've never heard of AWA, but since I live in the south U.S. (Louisiana) it is a possibility I could one day go. Only a few hours drive ^^''

In LA, we don't have many conventions. We've only had one so far, which was Mechcon. It was the 26th-28th of August though, and I missed it. ;__; I've never gone to a convention (I lack the funds and means of transportation ><) or anything of the sort.

A yaoi convention? Bills and food aren't that important in comparison :P I so wish I could go. What would the grandparents say? Hmm.... ^^

Just got back from CNanime *girlie scream* It is a con in Toronto, Canada running Aug. 26-28. The three day convention features anime, comics, sci-fi, horror, and gaming. It's a pretty big con but not as good as anime north (Canada best anime convention!!! HURRAY!!) I cosplayed as Miroku from inu yasha (actually got interviewed by the Toronto Star about my costume) I'll post a picture when I get them developed.

I always have a soccer tournament the weekend of CNAnime so I haven't been there in a few years.

It was the first convention I ever went to ^_^

What sort of guests did they have this year?
