Smile What do you think about Japanese anime comin to America?

I am down-right distgusted with the new anime that stations put on the air. They distort the Japanese animations, and change the dialogue(not just to English, dummy, they translate it allllllllllll wrong), they also put up some sucky voice actors ex: check out the One Piece anime(shudder)talk about baaaaaaaaaaaad voice acting, especially Luffy. Why can't they just bring back the old English subtitles and un-edited crap?(Sigh)

Um... You DO realize this is nothing new, yes? They've been Americanizing anime they show on the air for years... o_O Sailor Moon being a prime example. There's no way they'd show something subbed on TV.... And you know... I just did a research paper for my English comp. class about the topic of whether or not anime should be edited when it's shown on TV... I don't think it should. But, I do understand somewhat the argument on the parents and networks' side. They tend to direct the anime on TV towards children, yet use anime that contains a great deal of adult content. Soooo...of course they're going to end up editing the crap out of it. If you don't like it, just don't watch it. Buy the DVDs, which are unedited and contain the original Japanese voice track... Or, if you're too cheap to do that, see if you can download it from somewhere. The internet is a wealth of pirated entertainment...

Yes, I do realize that this is no new issue. But now, Japanese animes have become more popular than ever with American kids.

I disagree. I would rather have to pay for watching unedited and subtitled versions than the types they're showing now. But ebry1 is entitled to their own opinion.^^

It is not cool but there's nothing to do about it.
It is hard to translate things to you know.
Japanese is really hard to under stand.
Some people didn't have Japenese school's to help them learn it.
I only know a few words in japenese.

No, I know it is a complicated language, but they(the American translaters) tend to completely change the things the Anime says. Thats what I hate.

It can't be help. When you translate one language from another, it comes out different. Each language has it's own sentence structure and all of that "Proper Grammer" junk. I have a hard time with trying to read the subtitles and watch the anime at the same time. I prefer the dubbed, but not all anime is dubbed so sometimes I watch subtitled. Anime is big in the US because of the complexity of story, characters, and the level of quality in the animation. We just don't have the writers to put together a gripping story like what's in Japanese anime. Just be glad we even have anime. What if they decided to nolonger let foriegn countries watch their anime? I couldn't live if that happened, I'm a FULL fleged ANIME-JUNKIE!!!!! Don't take away my anime fix!!! Without anime I become VERY BORED!!!

You are part-right. I wouldnt live either if they took away my precious anime!!! And as I said earlier, It's not that they aren't translating it right...its just, theyre adding crap, taking stuff out, and changing COMPLETELY what the characters would say in the Japanese versions.
