Trumps Foreign movie tariff

Okay so has anyone else realized what a 100% tariff on foreign made movies is going to do to the anime industry?!

I can't figure out how such a tariff would work.

First of all, Trump still has no idea what a tariff is. It is not a tax on foreign countries. What does he think goes on? We send a tax bill to a foreign country and they will pay it?

A tariff is a tax on domestic companies which import goods and/or services. Let's say I own a company which imports shirts made in Cambodia. Cambodia will not pay the tariff. I would, and I could either eat the tax myself and let it affect my profit margin, or I can pass it along to my customers, or a combination of both.

So what about movies? Let's say Warner Brothers shoots a movie in England, and there is a tariff on foreign-made films. Warner Brothers is an American company. They own the film. They are not buying it from a foreign producer or studio. So how do you apply a tariff?

This idea of a tariff on movies is ridiculous.

As far as Japanese anime goes, the tariff would be paid by the American distributor, and ticket prices might increase down the line.

I'm not sure he cares how his orderss are carried out. He just tells people what to do.
