Season 2 of The Quintessential Quintuplets begins were season 1 left off. The school trip is at an end, and Futaro ends up in the hospital after his cold turns into the flu. When the Nakano quints come to visit, we know that everything has changed. The girls now accept Futaro as at least part of an extended family.

But things are about to get complicated as the sisters compete against each other for Futaro’s love, and things do start to get nasty. Will this destroy their relationship with each other? Meanwhile, Futaro is haunted by the memory of the mysterious girl whom he met years ago and who changed his life.

But this is a comedy. So you figure there will be a happy ending. But how will it end? Which of the quintuplets, if any, will win Futaro’s love? We do find out in the final scene, but there is too much of the story which is not told. There could have been a third season, though there is a follow-up movie. A big chunk of the story is missing.

The characters all develop and change in the course of two seasons. That is to be expected. We get to see that change gradually happen, and it is one of the more entertaining portions of the story.

I found The Quintessential Quintuplets to be entertaining, as the girls nervously try to get closer to Futaro, who is not always aware of their intentions. It is worth a look.
