I'm working on a book about a girl in a fantasy world starting a new religion based on a demoness. Only she's basically just a lazy succubus who doesn't actually want to do anything. But that's the hook.
Considering how hard it is to genuinely get into heaven, do you think you will make the cut? And Sloth is one of the big seven sins.
If a devil was too lazy to torture you in hell, or if that was the deal that they would not torture you or really do anything, would you sign on with them? Like say you have to be tortured for 1000 years in hell to be eligible for reincarnation. But if they don't you are stuck there for say 10,000 years until you reincarnate and try again... but you aren't tortured. Just left to your own devices. Or eternity or whatever. Or maybe they do torture you, but get bored after a week? They just aren't interested in the souls they gather.
I mean I never really understood why they would torture people in the first place. They work against god, so wouldn't they reward them? And spending eternity doing it sounds... dull after the first millennium. Also kinda pointless if you just stick people together. Forever. Kind of works for itself.
So quest to begin a religion based on the idea that yeah, you got o hell, but nobody tortures you. You can leave whenever. Heck, repent. Nobody cares. Always more where you came from and you may be back. It's eternity. My main character is a girl who was a priestess that was supposed to be sacrificed to her god, but then backed out before they could cut out her heart and is not cursed for it and sides with the tiny demon lady.
But anyway yes, you're still going to hell, but no active torture. How many people, especially those already pretty sure they aren't getting into The Good Place, would sign up for that?
Besides, what better excuse to not do anything if the floor is literally made of lava?
