Actress Gena Rowlands (1930-2024), age 94.

James Earl Jones, the voice of Darth Vader and CNN, has passed at the age of 93.

There were two actors I always felt spoke English as if the language was made just for them. One was Richard Burton and the other James Earl Jones. They worked together only once -- on the film The Exorcist Part 2, which I have seen on more than one list of worst movies of all time. Fortunately, both had better roles.

Actress Teri Garr died from multiple sclerosis at the age of 79.

Garr usually was casted in supporting roles, but she always stood out. She did what the role required, whether it was just filling out a scene or helping to carry the plot. She had a wide range for acting. Her films include Young Frankenstein, The Conversation, and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. She earned an Oscar nomination for her role in Tootsie.

Maverick film director David Lynch died just a few days short of his 79th birthday. His films included The Elephant Man and Blue Velvet. He is also responsible for the off-center TV series Twin Peaks.
